How to preserve good bio media?

Hi Everyone~

So with the chaos of my tank.. I have added a small carbon specialty filter. I have a coarse filter in my hang on back. I still have the disposable ones, that are more fine, and have activated carbon in i as well... I was going to put in so get rid of any residual medication and floating crap in the tank.. but I worked VERY hard to get the beautiful brown bacteria in/on that filter. 

Is there anyway I can preserve that coarse filter while I use the other one for a day or 2 to fine filter all the gunk out? I mean the little specialty filters did a pretty good job.. but I am going to do a water change and vacc and the fine filter will help get the rest out.. 

all suggestions or ideas are welcomed 🙂

@Tami Mine sinks to the bottom.. so I wedged it behind the thermometer.. LOL
