Hello!  I'm new to planted tanks, and haven't kept a freshwater aquarium for years.  I was into reefkeeping previously for about 13 years, and took a break from aquarium keeping until now.  I have a question I'm hoping someone here might have some insight into.

I have a beautiful male koi betta that has what looks like a definitely larger than ich, whitish bump on the side of his head, and I was wondering if anyone here seeing a picture might know what this is.  I've had him almost two weeks.  He's in a 29 gallon planted tank that has been running about two months, and he's been in there by himself.  He also swims around the tank constantly, almost erratically.  I added a lot more plants, and try to interact with him as much as possible.  I understand glass surfing is a thing for some bettas, and that they eventually stop.  The white bump is behind his eye a bit, and you can see how it stands out from his body.  Not sure if this is his anatomy, a cyst, or if he could have possibly gotten a parasite somehow?  I've got 12 Black Neon Tetras currently undergoing ich treatment in another tank, in an upstairs room, using salt, Coppersafe, and elevated temp.  Treatment is going great, and we are nearing the end of it, so I'm confident I'm doing well there. I don't want to introduce the tetras if the betta has something contagious.  Any thoughts?  Thanks in advance!

Could be a small cyst or possibly injured himself causing a small amount of inflammation what I would do is add some Indian almond leaves as they have antibacterial and antifungal properties you might have to add one leaf per gallon to get a beneficial effect and monitor for a week if you notice any change give us an update

Yes, very well could just be an injury of some kind.  I had some tannin extract on hand, so I added some of that to the tank; might grab some Indian almond or catappa leaves tomorrow.  I am definitely going to keep an eye on it. Will post new pics in a week.  Thanks for the suggestion!
