GoofyGarra
I noticed this morning that one of my female platies was acting off. She was just sitting on the bottom of the tank, she appeared almost squared off, only the scales on her bottom were pineconing a bit. Parameters: pH: 7.4 Hardness: 300+ Ntrate: 20 Nitrite: 0 Ammonia: 0 Temp: 78 None of the other fish in the tank are acting off. What is this and how can I treat it? JosiahBass
Honestly, she looks like she is going to give birth.I have breed platies of years that square of butt is what happens before they give birth.
MattyM
Agreed that the squared-off belly is a sure sign she is loaded with babies. If you have access to frozen/live BBS that might help encourage her. If you look at a fish from the top, and it looks like a pine cone, then that is dropsy I believe. If you google for pics, it's pretty obvious. From the pic I don't think that's the case here. JosiahBass
You're right,It could also be dropsy. I have also seen the scales look like that when they are very pregnant. Edited March 1 by JosiahBass
