Cal B Posted February 10 Share Posted February 10 Hi, I have a 50 gallon planted tank with cardinal tetras, honey gourami, bolivian ram, sterbai corydoras, otocinclus and harlequin rasboras. About a week ago I noticed one or two spots of ich on 4 of my cardinal tetras which I was going to treat until I encountered a columnaris outbreak on some of my otocinclus and rasboras. I decided to treat the columnaris first given it was a more serious threat using nitrofurazone and kanaplex - thank you to Colu. I have so far had great success with this treatment and no further deaths or symptoms since. I have monitored the cardinal tetras and note that about 4 (out of 10) of them still have one white spot on each of them but otherwise seem healthy with no scratching and eating well. No other fish show any outwards signs of ich. My plan is to treat with a white spot remedy from Blue Planet (Ich-X not available in my country) which the active ingredients are: - 37mg/mL Formaldehyde - 0.32mg/ML Malachite Green - Dose rate of 1mL per 8 litres of aquarium water for sensitive species such as catfish and tetras. (1mL per 4L for non-sensitive fish). My questions are: - Should I wait to treat for whitespot given the fish have just completed a 5 day course of nitrofurazone and kanaplex? Or will they be fine to treat right away? - Is this treatment safe for corydoras and otocinclus? I note Ich-x has malachite green chloride which is not so hard on fish whereas this remedy includes only malachite green. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Malachite green and formaldehyde should be fine for your Cory's and Otto's at the recommended dosage on the bottle with ich medication it always recommends a half dose for sensitive fish that doesn't successfully treat ich I have used medication containing those active ingredient with bristlenose and Cory's at full dose without issues what I would do is a large water change and add carbon for 24hr to remove any remaining medication then start treatment with your ich Edited February 10 by Colu Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

One thing I noticed is that the full dose for Ich-X is approx 1mL per 8L which is the same for 'sensitive fish' in the blue planet remedy.
