msskim Posted October 20, 2023 Share Posted October 20, 2023 Hello, I have 4 Oranda goldfish, all around 3.5 inches and 3 of them seem to have buoyancy issues and I believe it is due to them constantly eating the plants in the aquarium. I have taken out the plants that are easiest to eat, small leaf plants and slowly transitioning to more Anubis as those are the only ones they have yet to nibble on as well as 2 fake plants. I've also moved them into a bare tank temporarily with some Epsom salt and a heater as it was recommended online and from our local fish store. Also, I have not fed them for 2 days. I have reduced feeding as they pretty much have a buffet in the aquarium with the plants. I feed them peas twice a week and brine shrimp once a week. I was feeding them repashy gold, but since the buoyancy issues I have stopped as they are constantly eating. They are like puppies with a toy, grab the leaves and shake the plant, as cute as it is, I believe it is causing them this issue. My question is, when I resume feedings, I will give them peas to start, but do I continue regular feedings after even though they are eating the plants? I had Orandas before that did not care for the plants, this is new to me, and I don't want it to get worse. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I was told to feed them every other day to help with buoyancy, water parameters are good, ammonia 0, nitrite 0, nitrate .25. They love their food, don't spit it out and are active, no gasping at the top. Have a fluval 407 cannister filter and air bubbler. They are in a 'bare" tank right now with just anubias, which they don't eat and seem to be doing better, I put them back in on Saturday and gave them peas last night. Nothing jumping out at me the diet wise that would cause the buoyancy issues your seeing a don't think nibbing at your plants would affect the swim bladder blood worms aren't the best diet I would only feed them once a week Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
