TomO
I live in a mineral rich area. Lots of abandoned mines within 100 miles from my front door. Mostly iron and copper, but also silver, gold and even a few diamond prospects. I get most of my hard scape from the poor rock piles (the rock that doesn't contain ore.) Are there any mines I should stay clear of? Which minerals are bad for fish?
Administrators Cory Posted November 7, 2020 Administrators Share Posted November 7, 2020 I'm guessing this is gonna take some googling, in general heavy metals are bad, but to know what would be coming out of those mines, seems like it would be hard to know. TomO
So copper, and it’s associated minerals is bad. But iron is good for plants but bad for fish?
ange
It's all down to how much dissolves into the water. A lot of small pieces that make up a larger sized surface area will usually affect chemistry faster than one big piece with a medium sized surface. If I recall, Joey the King of DIY posted a video about foraging for hardscape on his channel and may have more information.
