fishfolk221 Posted March 2, 2023 Posted March 2, 2023 (edited) (This isn't a great picture) the color of black on this green kubotai that I got from aquahuna is like a forest green in the right light whereas all the others are bright neon green. I have had it for about a month and at first I was worried but it seems like it's completely healthy I just wanted to know if anyone else has come across this black color variation its the only one of 16 that have this dark shadowing. I was wondering if it may be be a genetic mutation like albinism? Edited March 2, 2023 by fishfolk221 1
TheSwissAquarist Posted March 3, 2023 Posted March 3, 2023 I've had some normal Endlers pop out abnormal amounts of golden fry, but i think the term for a very black individual is Leucistic?? Correct me if I'm wrong @Fish Folk
mynameisnobody Posted March 3, 2023 Posted March 3, 2023 @TheSwissAquarist black dominance is melanistic. Leucistic is the dominance of yellow. 1
Fish Folk Posted March 3, 2023 Posted March 3, 2023 (edited) The proper term for certain darker color forms is “Melanistic.” Leucism for light / Melanism for dark. The term for gold / yellow dominance is Xanthism. Edited March 3, 2023 by Fish Folk 1
