smm333
I just bought 4 platies and I have them in quarantine with medication to treat any possible issues. I'm super nervous because this is the most vulnerable time. Fingers crossed for healthy fish who can join my community tank in 4-6 weeks!

You do not need to qt them for that long, I would say 3-4 weeks is efficient enough but if you want to take it to be 100% sure that they are disease free thats your choice. Goodluck! Goodluck! I saw the time frame on a girl talks fish video. I'll see how they are doing in 4. Hopefully they will be happy and healthy! 🥰
Pepere
My experience has been that if fish survive the first week, they are most likely going to make it out of quarantine and into the display tank. I quarantine new fish at least 6 weeks if no sign of disease in that time. any batch that has problems gets quarantined for 6 weeks after last symptom.. My most recent batch of White Skirt Tetras developed Ich spots the day after doing my first water change after first med trio week. They appear to be responding to treatment right now, but they will likely stay in quarantine for 10 weeks. Assuming they appear Ich Free by Wednesday, that will be two weeks and I will keep them in elevated temps and mild salt solution for 2 more weeks before water changing the salt and slowly lowering temps and watching them for 6 weeks from that point. Ich is much easier to deal with in a 10 gallon tank with no plant life. a single dose of Ich X in quarantine week is no guarantee of ich prevention. usually if I see no symptoms after med trio treatment I give the fish three weeks with no meds and just observation before a second treatment of paracleanse t9 kill any internal parasites that hatched from eggs after intial dose. Then a final week of observation after ending the week of paracleanse treatment. The frustration of having to deal with introducing illness to a display tank will linger far longer than the excitement of transferring fish into it a couple weeks sooner than otherwise… @DiscusLover is probably right though that 4 weeks is long enough if no signs of problems. You could easily dose the second paracleanse dose after the end of the third week and transfer them directly after they complete it. And I am willing to bet the vast, vast majority of fish in the hobby go from the bag to the display tank. None of mine will though. 1

The waiting is so hard, but it is always worth it to do it right. I heard Cory, on a live stream (I think), say that the length of the quarantine could be tied to the value you place on your display tank. If it is empty - you could QT in the display, but if you have fish you value, QT separate until you are sure they won't bring anything to your existing fish. The more fish I have, the longer I QT, this hobby is building my patience. 😇
Pepere
I have three display tanks I am stocking. 2, 29 gallons and a 20 high. The first 29 is nearly fully stocked. I have 3,10 gallon quarantine tanks in the basement. I have been buying new fish every other week. I log their status on my calendar on my tablet to keep it all straight. The advantage is that I am transferring some fish to a display tank every other week which helps deal with the impatience and desire to add right off. I gave them in a bin - meds aren't always snail safe and all my tanks have mystery snail babies growing to trade size for my local fish store. The hardest part is not feeding them. My motherly instincts say feed them, but I am working on my patience. 😉

I'd turn ot into a mini pet store, lol! My quarentiners are in a bin on my kitchen. I'm thankful for a husband that is patient with my fish addiction! 🤣
