He was quite pale from shipping and acclimation. I also think that as he matures, grows, and adjusts to a new diet, he will darken up. Can’t wait to see him all blue!

Fish Folk
So I’ve been harassing Blue G. for some photos here after lights-out. He’s semi-complied. Mind you, he’s just barely two months old. I don’t expect to really see him in full pheasant plumage until October, 2023. But here’s what he showed off this eve under flashlight… 2
itsfoxtail
Holy moly! If those are the colors after two months I'm almost scared to see how colorful he'll be in another few! 😱

Kind of a fluke. They are not easy to find. I also don't think that this line gets the long flowing trident tail that are the most sought-after in US though. This line appears to have originated in Loé, Cameroon. Apart from growth in size, I don't think he'll look any different than he does now. Here's a look at some Loé varieties... Now, the so-called "Dwarf Red" looks more like these... But the real money is on these three strains. The one on the right side is the archetypal strain -- the banner icon for American Killifish Association. Mine will not end up looking like this. Killi breeders are a bit like gemstone hoarders. You'll be hard-pressed to ever get your hands on a line of these...

Fish Folk
Enjoying the growth process with this fella. Hoping to acquire an additional pair eventually as well. Here is a nice profile shot from yesterday... 4
Fish Folk
I have separated the female out from the male. He is way too aggressive right now. She needs time to build up eggs, recover, build up, etc. I also have ordered an additional pair. These males get huge. I have been learning more as well. The American Killifish Association banner fish is a Fundulopanchax sjostedti Niger Delta... That orange streak through the center of the caudal fin is a tell-tale sign. My line is not from Nigeria. It is from Cameroon. From Loé region, to be precise... Some details on what I may expect as my Loé F. sjostedti grow include: possible mature length of male = 7-inches! Also, representative males _do_sometimes develop the deep trident tail. Here is a photo of a mature the male from this exact line... I'm honestly so excited about these! I will say this: these are hard to come by. If I get to selling, I am going to play a long game and sell top dollar. 2
Schuyler
It's so hard to tell if a picture of a killi has been doctored or had it's color enhanced. They are so colorful I'm always skeptical but then pretty much all of them I've seen live up to the pictures more or less. It will be exciting to see how he colors out. Are you feeding him anything specific to help him color up? I'm not super familiar with fish nutrition but that feels like a thing I've heard... My approach is to feed a broad spectrum of good foods. Lots of frozen foods on their diet: Daphnia, Bloodworms, Mysis, Brine Shrimp, etc. I move between Bug Bites and Omega One dry foods. Live Artemia, and baby Brine when available round things out. Foods high in carotenoids tend to boost pink / orange / red colors.
Fish Folk
New F. sjostedti pair arrived. They are larger, as fry, than many Killis ever grow in adulthood. Huge, glorious beasts among the “orchids of the aquarium.” 2
