FishyMike
I’m not having luck finding a non tempered 55 gallon tank so my idea was taking a pane out of my 55 and replace it with a pane of not tempered to drill it? Is that crazy to do? Anyone have any experience?
Flumpweesel
How confident are you with removing and resealing? Could be an expensive experiment. If you had a tank that already needed a new side I'd say nothing to lose but I'd be reluctant to play about with a new tank. My thought would be look at alternatives to drilling first. rockfisher
I would look to no drill overflow first. I would also call local glass companies and ask if they have a laser cutter for tempered glass. Many companies that do custom glass do have one at least here. I would start with the biggest and if they don’t have one class who does. Because it’s not uncommon to have custom tempered glass. Lots of doors have to have holes lassered in so handle hardware can be place on the door.

I have not had a tank gone but a large glass door at a country club. I’m not sure how it was hit with a golf ball because it’s not really a spot that should normally get hit. Anyway they told me that was the way they cut the tempered glass it could be expensive. The doors I replaced were very expensive but they were huge doors. I have to say I never looked at the itemized bill. I just signed off and sent to lennar homes.
