Is my canister filter that good or....

Hello all! I used to run 2 canister filters on my 75g until one sprung a leak over a year ago.  Instead of buying another one, i decided to run a sponge filter. It's been running for well over a year and every time i ring it out in tank water, it's like squeezing a brand new sponge. Nothing comes out! 

Is my Cascade 1000 that good or do i have a defective sponge filter? I do use an airstone to quiet it down some.

Your canister filter is that good. I have a few aquariums set up with sponge filters and one with a canister filter. The aquariums with sponge filters (corse and fine sponges) always have a significant  amoint of detritus when squeezed once every 2 weeks.
