sweetpoison
Because I want them. Either they’re going to be 20 feet long or aggressive….
Fish Folk
Peacock Cichlids. Africans. Max size will be 6 inches. If you do this, they need a minimum tank size of 55 gal, and should be heavily stocked - 20 males. Be sure you only buy bright males, not dull females. Study up on them. Glad to share tips. We kept Mbunas awhile.
Fish Folk
Let me hasten to add… they’re not community fish. Species-only is the norm.
Beed
Someone correct me if I'm wrong here, because I've only had Mbunas. But if someone did want to breed peacocks, is it best to stick to one species/strain? I know my Mbunas crossed, and the offspring weren't as colorful. Which made them a little harder to give away, so I had to do some separating to avoid over populating. Fish Folk
@BrettD yes, it is typical to keep a fraternity-only tank of peacocks. The addition of even a single female can turn a tank into Thunder-Dome. For breeding, definitely try to focus on a species. Hybrids are normal in nature, but discouraged in the trade.
