Aquarium salt doesn't contain trace minerals where as Marine salt has trace minerals and elements that will increase your buffering capacity and can raise your pH it's safe to use

I’m guessing I already know the answer to this question but.. does aquarium salt kill the bacteria on the sponge filter? Asking because I am usually at a 0 ammonia for my quarantine tank and several days after I added “level one” amount of salt, I got an ammonia reading for the first time.  0.5 ppm

The ranchu sure is cute.

I have used aquarium in all of my tanks over the years I have never had an ammonia spike after using it goldfish can be messy fish it possible the sponge filters benefial bacterial needs time to catch up with the amount of waste being  producing I would do daily testing and water changes and add a double dose of prime to help detoxify any ammonia till your ammonia constantly stays at zero for a couple of days in a row
