Angelfish Spawning

Hey,

I have had these angels for 6-7 months now. They were clearly adults when I go them. I originally purchased 6, all around this size. I was hoping they would pair off. The 2 below have always been around each other. It was 4 angels on one side of the tank and these 2 on the other. I just got rid of 3 of the angels. Now it is these 2 on one side of the tank, and the one angel that is left on the other. I have to assume these 2 are a pair. The issue is, I haven’t seen them spawn once. They haven’t even sniffed at spawning behavior. I really want to breed them because I love this color patter and I think they are awesome. It was my understanding that angels are easy to spawn. Is there something I am not catching here?

Sorry, forgot to add the pic

I am not a professional by any means. But I have bred angels before and Severums as well. I have found that they need a flat upright surface to lay the eggs on. I use an upright piece of slate tucked behind some fake plants I have.

This obviously is all depending on if this is a true m/f pair. I can’t tell from the photo but I typically sex them at maturity based on the tube.

They have a large rock and an enormous Amazon sword. What is the tube?

Underneath the fish where the eggs and sperm come from. On the males it’s a pointy and narrow tube. On the females it’s short and wide. Usually the tubes will show when fish are ready to breed but some angels have them all the time.

I move my pairs to a 20 gal tank and give them a slate. The at just at the right age maybe a liittle young. I’ll show some pics because ba breeding tank can be simple. I like to use the skates once the my start about every 2.5-4 weeks they should spawn. Sorry about the the tank conditions I had a heart attack bout 9 days ago and in not supposed to lift or Scrub. The first two are just plastic tubs you can see the slate on the left side sort of90F2E56E-76C5-4913-A6FD-3B86CBD967B8.jpeg.83728b173fd462351389a9163e8fc19e.jpeg84F8FBD6-96D4-4D4A-8BFE-21E73AF31227.jpeg.d804ec28f9ba8dc5eb63adccfc222fcb.jpegthe next is just a 20 gal I just moved this pair today. 92568D2B-D3DD-4CF4-8A23-275D082DCBC4.jpeg.a14ca0688d7ddd6a428df8bc8277927f.jpeg9AB34E17-E733-4054-8346-2E9416CF8436.jpeg.07d5aab429a1724f7a09803f9d9276fc.jpegthese two get moved out of this -5 gal back to the 75 after the hatch.47004D4A-8852-497E-8F19-600BFFAA9B5A.jpeg.c2890a687a6d7d4c8fc366b3b05c1cbc.jpegthese guys do the best but when I was in the hospital there normal 55 had a leak. I moved them and the slate the day I came home and the laid the same day. This one is not ideal because it is my mystery snail breeding tank and l 333 are growing out int there. 9D2932E1-1883-4ED9-9689-3A9ECF1B3677.jpeg.7be7a1685140e83e6cc83a197cffb5e7.jpeglast is a very messy 75 we’re they pair up. You learn pairs pretty quick. If you give a pair -4-5 weeks and nothing change one out. I find that if I move both and put to new I have less luck. If I have say 2 pairs of double blacks an d northern is producing I change the males to the other tank. Check every day if you think there might be funny business because they will eat the eggs.
