Blackwater Ancistrus

Recommended Posts

A friend who keeps saltwater has taken an interest in my freshwater projects which led to an investment in some new strains of ricefish. He likes getting credit from our LFS and wants me to eventually move to shipping fish.

He’s now brought up the idea of moving into rarer ancistrus and guppies. For now we’ll focus on the ancistrus. The thought is that their care is fairly similar to common ancistrus and if not wild caught water wise they can handle our local parameters.

I’ve been debating L182-184 vs snowballs vs longfin green dragons vs super reds. I’ve had success with my group of long fin calicos and they’ll be settling in soon to a 40 breeder of their own. This group of ancistrus would be put with my corys in a 29 g. I could eventually upgrade them to a 60 breeder of their own.

All constructive criticism, ideas and nermy banter appreciated.

Over the last 20 years  I have had probably had over ten thousand + bristlenose fry I have found them very easy to breed if they are  well feed and given suitable water parameters and plenty of caves if your going to breed more types of bristlenose I would recommend getting a group of ancistrus wabenmuster love the patten
