Martin
Good morning all! Curious question regarding the schooling of fish... My tank is currently stocked with neon tetras. Given my nitrates are almost always rock-bottom, I figured it could likely sustain a few more fish. I want to add some color and variety, but don't want to go overboard. If I purchased another species of tetra, would I need another 6-10 to form their own school, or would the presence of the pre-existing neons be enough to fulfill they need? I wouldn't just purchase 1 or 2, but likely 4 or 5. Thank you in advance to all you big brains out there! lefty o
depending on which other tetra, they may or may not intermingle much, schooling, unlikely. i have harlequin rasboras and neon tetras in one tank, and they intermingle quite a bit, but do not school together. Martin
Thanks @lefty o! I guess what I'm trying to determine is whether the other species would undergo stress if I didn't go all-out for a full school. I'm not completely against 6 of them, so maybe I can go that route. Hobbit
My neons and cardinals school together. But they’re really similar in terms of size and coloration, so I’m not sure how a more distant variant of tetra would do.
