Right, sorry! Maybe add a couple more Amanos in this case, like that you get a good clean-up crew which would eat this before you even notice it.

i agree with you, but im waiting a few weeks to add any more fish/inverts to the tank. just because i am currently treating the tank. but im planning to get around 4 or 5 more

I just assumed that you didn't like the look of it...how big is the tank?

i mentioned its a 20 gallon, it already has 3 amano , 2 that are around 3 years old from my mates tank who couldnt care for them, and a cherry

Try introducing about 5-6 amanos if its a 15 gal or under; they should soon get rid of the unsightliness.

its not the fact it looks bad, its the fact that its fungus and im sure its damaging the tank..

  4. 70 should be fine for the majority of fish, ofcourse its not a huge difference between what some fish are recommended to have and ive had fish like guppys in 22 degrees which is just over your temp for months!

ofcourse some fish are more hardy than others , id say 21 is good tho, just avoid fish like betta or really delicate ones and you should be good to go

also you can consider putting lids on your tank to trap heat and increase it slowly over time. but this may not be 100% successfull.

  6. a picture of a grass plant in my aquarium - 20 gallon , 2 months old

i believe its fungus, but im not entirely sure. im currently treating the tank with anti fungus and finrot+ by interpret - 6th day.

on the plant you will find small white coatings dotted on it,

I saw @Cory's video on how most fish don't need a heater and his other video at goliad farms and they have temps as low as 65, I get that most fish species we keep will do well in average home temps but which species should I consider adding heat to?

well it depends on where you live, if you live in a warm country , most fish can do just fine without a heater , if you live in a colder area like me (UK) a heater is needed for most fish that are not Coldwater, i personally think that if the fish is hardy and is known for being hardy then it doesn't necessarily need a heater if its just a 1 to 3 degree difference im sure they will be just fine. but mainly for fish that come from places like Africa or at least originate from these warm environments , a heater doesn't hurt

Usually, I go with one week with no symptoms. Than one week with no meds. Only than will I add new stock if illness doesn’t come back.

sounds reasonable lol, definitely a safer option than what i had in mind. (i was going to add more on sunday when the medication is finished)

  9. ive been fighting off what i believe is fungus and what i definitely know is fin rot in my 2 month old 20 gallon , but i want to add more stock,

when do i know its safe to do this?

i know it sounds stupid and obviously i can when the fungus and finrot is resolved but when do i know this is the case??

    Ever tried BBS?

i thought about it, but at the same time i really dont want to, it seems a bit weird. but im also scared of the ammonia spiking because of it.

  11. i feed the whole tank temperate flakes that i have fed my 20 gallon for 1 year and 8 months, i do need to get some fresh ones but the last pack i got didnt last because it was small lol, but they seem to like this food.

and then i feed the guppys a few tropical pellets too , just a bit for some more nutrients.

Thanks, he wasn't sick, I think he was just old. I saw your post, I was sorry to see that. I wasn't sure what it was so I didn't answer it- but there's lots of causes for bloat.

9 could be good it's really just group dynamics. It's just like Betta fish, one can be very aggressive the other could be very mellow- same with a group- some could work out fine others can be too much. Just watch your tank, provide places for fish to hide/rest and have visual breaks in the tank. My tank also has 7 Ember Tetras, nobody harrasses them but they seem to help break up the chaos at times. It just depends. 🙂

honestly i have general idea on what caused the death, but i have no clue if im right.. all i know is that it was definitely hurt , bloated and bleeding but no clue what caused it.

as of hiding spaces, im working on getting as many plants as i can , i want the whole back of the tank to be filled of plants, but the issue is, even with the plants in the tank right now they tend to come to the front when im in the room because they want to be fed and i feed them at the front lol.

and i also have 7 tetras , but neon tetras. they dont get picked on b anything, and whenever they go through the guppies they also tend to stop

The answer is no. They will always chase each other and harasss each other. This makes for a very active tank- you do have to watch for aggression and body/fin damage. The key most of the time is to find the right balance of numbers. The more targets a fish has the less chance any one guppy or endler is harassed "to death". I have 3 Guppies (male, 1 recently passed 😞 ) and 5 Endler males. I notice that certain ones stick together and certain ones pick on particular ones- however it's not to the point of anyone getting hurt so it seems I've gotten this particular balance right- the tank has plenty of hides and plants so fish can get away when they need to.

sorry to hgear about the guppy 😞 one of mine too passed this morning.. - details in one of my recent posts

but yes, i have 9 guppies in total so im sure this is enough for spreading the balance?

right now im just watching corys new video. and he mentions how changing the temperature in the tank can make fish more docile?

but wont this make the fish uneasy?

  14. will guppies every actually stop fighting? all the guppies in my tank are males, they have been in here fro just 1 week and 3 days and im sure it will stop eventually but im not sure how long.. they are a mix of fancy and endlers. (with other species of fish in the tank as well.)

just wondering if they will stop fighting or not. but to be honest its mainly chasing and showing their fins off than fighting and nipping.

infact i barely see nipping just chasing

  15. this really sucks, even after starting to treat the tank, the first death has happened.

this was a fancy guppy i have had for around 1 week and 2 days..

looks like dropsy, its anal gland has blood so im assuming it was a congestion / digestion issue. his belly is definitely bloated so i am also thinking dropsy has a say in this.

this fish also had ever a very bad tear in its dorsal fin or finrot, which the tank is being treated for . (may i add the tank is also under a bit fo an attack of fungus.) image.jpeg.2cba928c01de72c0fff775abae2fc8c2.jpeg

what would anyone suggest i can do to prevent this happening again?  im getting the water tested very soon (sometime today or tommorow)

do you use a dechlorinator like prime when doing water changes and without noing your water parameters ammonia nitrite nitrate etc it difficult to no for sure what the causes is @SC Fish first I would test your water parameters and report back

yes, i use the correct dosage on both tanks of dechlorinator ,  i use "tap water conditioner" made by aquacare for coldwater , tropical and marine aquariums. have been for over a year now

    Still can destabilize things enough.

yes , however i dont get how this could have caused such a bad issue in the 20 gallon so fast and never in my 10 gallon?

also surely doing water changes as i clean the sponges (adding the tapwater conditioner) should kill chlorine that had been placed in the filters?

Idk whats in your tap water but thats generally a very bad practice, ESPECIALLY with chlorine. I would suspect that could be part of the culprit.

something that may be worth mentioning tho is that i have double media on my filters and only cleaned 1 pet week

Well other than that its hard to say. Did you ever clean your media with non tank water? Maybe with water with chlorine, or water thats too hot or cold that would shock and kill beneficial bacteria?

ok, so i do clean the sponges (on both tanks) with tap water up until around 3 weeks ago, so the last 2 cleans where with tank water, however after cleaning the sponges with tap on the 10 gallon for 1 year and 7 months nothing like this has happened
