  1. I’ll try this for like a week and see what happens (I’ll share my findings). Thanks for the suggestion! Maybe it will help someone else, too *shrug*
  2. Ah. That’s too bad. I suppose re-siliconing is what I’ll do. I was planning on upscaling my quarantine setup to a 10g bin and use this old 2.5g for bugs, as I like to catch spiders and other crawlies during summertime. The blue just looks kinda wonky for a terrarium. Thanks anyway!
  3. Hey! I have a small quarantine tank in which the silicone sealant has been stained blue by ich-x medicine. Is there any way to remove the blue stains, or is this permanent? Thanks 🙂
  4. Yes. Temperature is one reason I decided not to move my betta into this setup.
  5. I totally wasn’t even thinking about this. Yes, I’ve heard that this happens. That would be no good! I agree. No little fishies with the big angel. Forgot how big angels were. Hmmm...I have to think a bit more about what I want overall. I have four tanks currently, three cycled; but I’m rethinking my plans for all of them simultaneously. It will be a slow process, but I’m hoping to have the setups I really wish to have in the end!
  6. Good to know. Is this because they don’t have a lot of room to turn around? Or some other reason? I’d love to know your experience! I’ve been thinking today while at work and am still leaning toward a single angel and neon tetras because I’ve wanted both species for a while but did not have space for them in my other tanks. You mentioned 15 neon tetras without an angel; what would be the max, in your opinion with an angel? I may not do the max, but it’s nice to have some general boundaries.
  7. I actually considered moving my regular betta, Ollie, into this tank as he seems pretty docile. But I rather like him in his 10 gallon. I think in this instance I would prefer an angel for now—that is if I decide for certain to do a centerpiece and not just a large school of fish. Good suggestion, though! Would you happen to have a picture to share of your tank or your giant betta?
  8. This would be cool! I’m thinking one angel, too. I’d just have to decide which school of tetras to get. They’re both pretty in different ways. Thanks!
  9. Just want to say thanks for the help! It’s always interesting to learn behaviors of fish species that are new to me. I looked up pictures of BN pleco camouflage and that looks like what happening with my fish!
  10. Hi 🐠 I have a 30-ish gallon tank that I would appreciate some stocking advice. It has the footprint of a 29g, but it’s a bit taller. (30” x 12” 20”). This is the current stocking: 1 blue gourami, 6 cherry barbs, 5 cory cats, and 1 BN pleco. I’m planning to move the cherry barbs and blue gourami into a different tank all for themselves. This would leave me with just a pleco and some corydoras (which I may add more of). I am considering adding either (1) angel fish, (2) or a medium school of emperor tetras, (3) or a large school of neon tetras. I do not know much about angel fish. Most people suggest to get a pair, but I am worried about aggression due to breeding. Do angels usually leave catfish alone? Is my tank to small for angels? Any suggestions for which option to choose? Thanks everyone 🙂
  11. Phew. Thanks! I was worried! His fins have definitely grown A LOT, so I guess he's just maturing. I will look into betta biology and care a bit more. One last question: is it a concern if my betta's beard is always visible? Does this mean anything? Or do some bettas do this a lot?
  12. Hello. I have a newish betta named Ollie who lives in a planted 10g tank by himself. A few days ago, I noticed that his black gills were extended out from under his gill flap. However, he isn't showing any signs of breathing heavy (no gasping) and he is fairly active. He's also had a small lump in his abdomen since I purchased him, and it possibly looks a little bloated now. I am not sure. Do you think this could be gill flukes? Gill hyperplasia? I have never kept a betta before. After doing some research, I immediately did a quick strip test to make sure water parameters were right, and nothing seemed wrong. Low nitrates, no nitrites, and less than .25 ammonia. I can do another test tonight if it will help with the diagnosis. A water change is due soon. I prefer to do 40% every few weeks as that method has been working for me and keeping things stable. I keep his tank around 77 F, but can easily raise the temperature if that will help. I used to keep it at 80F, but turned it down. I can't remember why. I feed Ollie a variety of betta pellets, floating and sinking, and give him just a few pellets every other day (approximately). Tonight he seemed to be stressed by the flow of the filter so I turned it off temporarily. His filter is an internal filter, and the flow is pretty low, but I am considering getting a sponge filter instead to make things even better. I would appreciate any help. I have mardel maracyn, ich-x, and Fritz ParaCleanse on hand. I can easily get aquarium salt if needed.
  13. Hello! I have been studying the fishes in my tank, and my bristle-nose pleco seems to have developed discoloration since purchasing. During quarantine, I used the trio of medicines recommended by this site as a precaution before moving this fish into my main tank. Are these light-colored patches anything to worry about? I have never kept this species before. Do they tend to be splotchy? EDIT: I realized I accidentally annotated a brown line near the pectoral fin. Please disregard that blooper.
  14. Okay! I've been treating the stocking sort of like a 29g. Just wanted to get another opinion. The tank has been running for about 8 months. It's lightly planted with some val, an amazon sword, and two plants I forget the name of. I currently have 5 cory cats, 6 cherry barbs, 1 blue gourami, and 1 bristlenose pleco. It is stabilizing nicely. Thanks for the thoughts!
  15. Hi everyone! I have a little question about the tallest of my three current running tanks. I bought it off a neighbor last July, but they did not know the gallon amount. The glass part is 30 inches long, 12 inches wide, and 20 inches tall (not including black rims on top or bottom). It has the footprint of a standard 29g, but it's a bit taller. Is this an easy-to-find size of fish tank, or do I have an oddball size? Is it like a 30g tall? 31g? What do y'all think? Thanks
