    That's insane.

I think so lol. It’s trained I think to grow so big that unfortunately I can’t keep it anymore lol. Excited to restart my 40b now though!

    Wow!!!

Cool huh. I’m gonna list the whole lot on FB in the next day or two and hopefully I can find a home for it. Someone will need a tall tank to fully enjoy it.

  2. Here’s an unintentional plug for the coop but I bought 1 portion of anubias nanji maybe 5+ years ago. It slowly has taken over my 40 gallon and has grown maybe 2 feet worth of rhizome. Over the years I’ve had to prune many leaves and lately it’s progressed. Between the pothos and anubias I can’t quite find the sweet spot for fertilizer. Here soon I’m doing a tear down of the tank and removing the anubias was the first step.

I cleaned up the roots and cut off all the gravel. Next I portioned it off a bit and put it in 2, 20 longs. As you can see it doesn’t fit. I live in Eatonville wa and will need to find it all a new home. What a crazy removal.

  3. I collected 140-150 corydoras rabauti eggs last week and they hatched this morning. Good number got  fungus but I suspect I see 30~ babies that didn’t escape the tumbler. It’s been awhile since I had a spawn. How do you guys rear days old corydoras? I know after a few days I was able to get them to take freshly hatched bbs in the past. Do you try to get food in front of them immediately? Currently I have them in little deli dishes in my fish room to keep an eye on them.

It's worth trying. I haven't experienced this personally but I've heard that it can be harder to get glass layers to use a mop.

Funny enough, mine have used the mop for over a year now yet one specific female has started to randomly place a few eggs on the glass. My guess is because it's now heavily planted. Maybe since the plants are up against the glass she THINKS she's laying on a plant?  Who know haha? 🤷‍♀️. Sounds like a plausible reason to me.

They like to keep us on our toes, huh? Lol

It honestly might. I do know this is something some cory breeders do. They mostly do it to control who breeds with who but in this case it might help other things too.

I would also try to use a spawning mop personally. They are very handy. They simulate plants they like to lay their eggs in and are easily removed to search. There are many YouTube videos explaining how to make them. In this case use sinking, not floating ones. They are the bundles of yarn on the bottom of the tank in this picture of my main tank.

I thought about throwing some mops down in the substrate but previously they always laid on the glass. It might be worth a shot.

    Live. Black. Worms. 😎

Feed just after lights-out. Leave a night-light on in your fishroom overnight.

I’ve heard so many great things about them but just coming out of the holiday season budget is a concern lol.

Try frozen blood worms and other frozen foods to condition them. Large water changes with slightly lower ph and temp than their tank. A large (50%) water change does the trick with my Cory’s. I use RO water at approx 6.6 ph for water changing. I run my Cory tanks from 6.7 to 6.8 at 74 / 75 degrees.

I might try pumping them full of blood worms and doing the water change. When I first got the group they spawned all the time and I did nothing. They haven’t appeared to spawn at all in months from what I can tell. One time their tank hit 61 degrees and I got a whole bunch of eggs lol.

High protein foods will make her develop eggs faster. A cold water change (5-10F lower than the tank temp) will trigger them to spawn. Works almost every time for me.

A note on the sex of them. In cories you actually keep a reverse trio of 2M to 1F. Males won't pester the female but will run out of sperm with females spawning regularly. So, in your case neither is of concern. The only concern is that you have all of your eggs in one basket so to speak. It all relies on the one female.

I’ve thought about possibly doing musical tanks and pulling her out with 2 males to see if that encourages activity.

  7. I have a group of paleatus in a 20 long by themselves. Initially when I got the group over a year ago, they breed constantly. Fast forward to now I see no breeding behavior. I think it’s 1 female to 7 males. They don’t seem to pester or harass her which is ideal. I’ve watched them after water changes and storms and see no activity. Any suggestions or feedback on how to get them back into breeding shape?

Pothos loves to be propagated! Won't hurt it at all.

@Jimmy I love how much you have growing out of your tank! I just have one stem, started as a 12" cutting that I broke off of my mother plant. It's snaking around the wall, only has about another foot to go until it reaches a window. Then I expect it to explode!

This is beautiful, that pothos is clearly happy. This is exactly what I wanted to do with my jar aquarium. I have been shy about taking cuttings from my pothos, but I need to get with the program because this is just fabulous!

Just do it lol. It’s very slow growth so just prepare to wait.

Looking beautiful @Jimmy. Thanks for sharing!

I agree, the transition from Pothos to Anubias is magical.

(random) I remember that Gary Lange had some very attractive broadleaf plants growing immersed in his fishroom.

I use Pothos in many of my tanks. None look as nice as yours, but here’s a few shots…

Dang that looks amazing! I can’t seem to get a portion of pothos going in my tank, so I’m envious.

It’s slow going. Just take the clipping and partially submerge it. We have had this start growing up the wall several times but inevitably one of my toddlers has their way with it. For the submerged growth it’s even slower but eventually leaves start growing in the water.

Have you seen @Fish Folks pothos? It's about the same size as yours!

can’t say I have. I’d like to let it grow around the room but the kids always knock it down lol.

Until recently, I wasn't aware that pothos could grow leaves in the water. That is so cool. Very nice tank.

right?! It’s really slow but eventually it happens.

@Jimmyyou were an inspiration for my fish room build and it was great to catch up! I too am in the PNW (Central Oregon), when you get more fry from the guppies we can swap - some of my blue Hawaiians for those LRBs! Also would love a group of the paleautus, such a hardy cory. I will definitely attend Fishtoberfest again in Portland this fall you should plan to attend. Take it slow, I was quick to fill all my tanks and had some disasters.

I became pretty inactive keeping it updated. I never saw this response so I’m replying 7 months later lol. I’m glad you found some inspiration! It’s a small space with limited power capacity and no running water. I thought it was crazy initially but people keep fish all around the world with even less resources and functionality so I thought why the heck not.

Just started reading this thread; you've some a long way from putting walls up!

Looking great, and thanks for some ideas for my own future fish room 😈

Awesome! I’ve learned a ton in the course of the little over a year I have had it up and running. Sadly I think how my next fish room will be different from time to time.

My biggest suggestion is to put most your stock into planning and use other fish keepers rooms as a starting point for inspiration.

I suspect snail eggs. I have 1 mystery snail and a bunch of bladder snails. But I have never seen this.

Siamese Algae Eaters. Got a group for . . . eating algae . . . but they're hilarious. Plus they get along fine with Discus!

I got two SAI when I started my 40b 2 years ago when I panicked at stag horn. It was immediately decimated and eventually they both got big and started fighting. Flash forward to now I only have 1 SAI and not sure what happened to the second. Now the remaining is a fat sausage that sits on the bottom  and occasionally darts from one side of the tank to the other lol.

Biggest surprise in recent times was Normans Lampeyes. Very subtle color but with a flash light the males are a disco ball. They were initially shy but now beg more than my guppies and rice fish.

When I was a new aquarist I adopted a tank that had a Chinese algae eater. Worst fish I’ve ever kept not sure how they made it into the hobby

You’ll love these! Hope they color up nicely for you. Keep a tight lid on the tank…

All 28 of my aquariums have a polycarbonate lid I don’t mess with carpet surfing lol.

I floated them then poured into pitcher. I then caught them by hand to put them into their tanks, the most jumping fish I’ve ever handled before.

The male gardneri was colored up in the dark bag for no good reason lol.
