just my take on this. if they came form a local fish store, i wouldnt worry about it, and feed late that day or even next day. on the other hand, if they have been in the mail a few days, id give them a few hours then lightly feed. im sure there are a lot of different opinions on this, will be interesting to see.

They are overnighted from California to Texas. Expected delivery before 12 pm????  "LOL"

My understanding is the newly hatched ones will crawl inside the adult shell occasionally.

Thanks, I did not know that, I have found out that a Mystery Snail can bury itself

  3. I received 9 new plants 3 days ago and got them planted.

So far I have found 16 hitchhiker from them and I have them hard at work on part of the tank I cant reach, more bang for my buck  🙂

I think it’s normal. It might lose some of it’s mass but I’ll spring back quickly. It grows pretty easily for me but I still make sure I’m using enough fertilizer and giving it enough light.

I have my Fluval 3 light going on the factory setting except I extended the day time hours to run 7am to 7pm hoping to give the new plants a little jump start.

I give them the basic dose of fertilizer about every 4 days for all the new plants.

The wider leaves (emersed growth) will gradually die back and be replaced by the longer, thinner leaves (submersed growth).

On my PSO, I sometimes notice the white underside of leaves when I disturb the plant or move it. I don't think that represents a problem with the plant. It will fix itself.

Thanks, these 2 were planted July 1st, if there is something wrong I need to take care of it and I planted 4 more on the 21st.

  6. I received the 2 gold mystery snails that I ordered and when I unwrapped them they were attached to a green fuzzy material so I put it in the water and moved it back and forth to get them off.  I thought all was good but the next day I found a 3rd gold mystery snail not much bigger than a BB that snuck in and came along for the ride.

I feel good about it 🙂

They’re also faster that you would think. Sometimes I see one on one side of the tank and then seconds later it appears on the other side.

I am beginning to find that out, one time I watch them they are just barley moving along and then they will scoot right along to get to a new spot to eat

I've lost one in a 40 breeder and seen it the next day. No clue how they do it but I suspect it's something like hanging upside down behind and sort of underneath a piece of driftwood.

The other little rascal finally showed up, maybe I need to name them Hou and Dini. 😃

Well they aren't escapees then, that's good news!    They can be good hiders, but mine has never burrowed in substrate.   He'll attach to plants, filters, logs, rocks, right side up or upside down.
I'm sure they will turn up eventually, mine is more active in the evenings.

Also I have read snails can take as long as a few days to acclimate and explore their new tank.  So wherever they are they may be in shutdown mode right now.

Maybe @Guppysnail can offer more insight?

Thanks, I walked back in there and one showed up in the center front of the substrate.  I cant figure out where it might have been, still looking for the 2nd one.

there is a 3rd one but it is a baby not much bigger than a BB  "LOL"

Do you have a lid?  They have been known to escape.

Yes I have lids on both sides and largest gap around the HOB's is maybe .25" and they are wider than that.

  11. I put 2 Mystery Snails in my 80 gallon yesterday, they are a bright yellow or gold color about the size of a quarter.

Today they are nowhere in sight, my plants are not that thick and I have looked over and under the decorations in the tank. I opened the HOB filter and did not find them there either.

So any idea how they can hide, do they bury them self in the substrate??

Just got four 40 breeders bc petco has their 50% off sale. Looking forward to filling these guys up and already got plans for all of them, just the process of getting lights and filters and stuff now. Gonna put Multis in one and do saltwater in another, guppies in one and the last one I’m not entirely sure.

Been there and done that   😅

im really curious as to what they figure out caused the tank to launch. i know they said there was welding, but there had to be gas in or around that tank for it to go off like that.

There are times when they hook a water line up to a gas line and the water pressure can hold the gas back so they can weld on the gas line.

Try ordering from A-Z Aquatics for local Saturday delivery anywhere in the metroplex for a small fee.  She has somewhat limited selection compared to larger stores, but great prices.  They also ship for very reasonable prices, but then you have the risk of severe heat exposure.  The local delivery on Saturdays is the best if you can be available on Saturdays.  I’ve put in an order late on Friday evening and still gotten it the next day.  They keep up with their stock list pretty well.

And it’s Odd Duck, not Old Duck, but Old Duck works, too!  😆 😉

Sorry about the name Odd Duck.  I may just take a drive out there, they are on the east side of Dallas in Royse City.

  15. Like Old Duck I am from Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex.  I have a 80 gallon tank I am converting to a planted tank if I can get my Nitrates down.  Currently I have one Clown Loach but he will have to go as I am planning on going with Fancy Guppies in that tanks.

I did pick up (4) 10 gallon tanks, one for a QT and the other 3 for breeding guppies.

Yes but I just started my plants 4 days ago, it looks like 3 will make it ok so I will probably order some more next week
