    Is the filter on end?

The tidal 35 is pretty strong and the way the exit is designed on the title can work "well".

If it has a spraybar output this might work.  You can try to put it beside the cabinet instead of in it.

The tidal is on the left side of the tank. it's the other side that has been the issue. I added a Sicce micron nano on the right side.

The canister filter was frustrating to try and get working. I may give it another try.

Any reason why you wouldn’t want to just throw a small sponge filter in there and call it a day?

A small internal filter like those that tetra makes is a pretty good alternative as well.

Oftentimes on small or atypically sized tanks, trying to use HOBs or canisters is more trouble than it is worth.

The tank is only 7.9 inches deep.

Hard to tell from the picture if you have floating plants. If you do not you could try a skimmer. I know that I don’t care for the buildup on the surface with open tanks.

I added duckweed to the tank about a few weeks back. The main issue is the entire right side of the tank has no flow whatsoever.

I added a micron nano. We'll see if that helps.

  3. My shallow 10 gallon tank has been setup for about a month now. Originally, I tried to put a Sicce Whale on the tank. I could not get the filter working and the cabinet was too restrictive.

Next, I tried an internal filter from Aquatop. The flow was too strong for the rice fish and white clouds.

I went back to using a Seachem Tidal 35. Which is fine for about half the tank. The other half has no flow.

My first thought was a small internal filter on the right side of the tank. Maybe a small power head

I would try the small Oase canister filter but reviews say it's loud.

This was taken right after setup. More plants are in the tank now. PXL_20231206_121030178.jpg.2beae79c592a4997fddd633dc219bc8d.jpg

Yea to be honest i don't know - rimless makes everything more painful - i mean they look nice and normally i'd say just run the aquarium without a lid but then you run into problems if you have jumpers or a smart cat.

My cat is the problem. Fish water is delicious and she doesn't mind getting wet.

Some hardware stores will cut glass for you. What i was saying is you could go to the hardware store and order a piece of glass the size you want... or in this case two pieces and then insert a hinge.

That might work. The piece of glass I have is really nice. Would have to pick up more clips because the tank is rimless.

You could slice it in 1/2 and put in a hinge; well would need to trim it down a little for the space the hinge takes. Really weird they don't hinge their lid; did they at least give you a handle to plop it off ?

Nope, it's literally one piece of glass. Granted a very high quality and heavy piece of glass. I would need to take it to a glass cutter to have any modifications done. Been thinking about having a feeding hole or two cut.

yea; they really suck all around; on the one hand they are dirt cheap with the only real alternative is to spend 4 x on a custom aquarium. Still i think going forward i'm going to limit myself to 10s and 20 long aqueon; just tired of cleaning up the mess when they fail.

I setup my UNS 60S last weekend. The build quality is amazing. My only gripe is the official lid is a piece of glass. It keeps the cat out but is a pain for feeding.

  8. Sooooo after making multiple messes with the canister filter and trying a Aquatop internal nano UV filter, I put my Seachem Tidal on the tank.

The UV filter has too much flow but I plan on keeping it to deal with algae issues. The fish should be fine to run the filter for a few our with the UV light on if necessary.

  9. Frustrating night. I cannot get the canister filter to work. No matter what I do, it will not start a syphon. The filter is either noisy or it's quite. But when it's quite, the thing starts to leak.

The tubing has no kinks, it's connected and sealed properly. Spent the evening yelling colorful language at it.

So I have a teeny tiny HOB in the tank just to provide flow. Fish should be fine.

  10. This evening, I've been working on mocking up the filter.

Sicce provides some tubing for the filter but not enough. I stopped by my lfs and picking up some different tubing. It's super stiff and a smidge too big. I'm not taking it back because it will work in an emergency.

The filter is sitting on one of the shelves because it's easier to route the tubing through the top opening. More flexible tubing is on my list of supplies to buy.

Anyway, I took two pictures of possible setups. Right now I'm leaning towards leaving the inlet and outlet on the back of the tank.

    +1 for decoration skills!
+1 for the cool artwork on the wall

    Nicely done!

My stand is made by a company called sauder.  I really like it.  They used to be sold under the aqueon brand name.  The issue I ran into is that for some weird reason stands are made to match the tank by a few millimeters.  I don't know why the tolerances for the top wood panel have to be so tight.  That being said, I got an "aqueon" stand because my tank is from aqueon.  Just be really careful buying a top fin stand (or marineland or someone else) and then going to put on your tank from the sale. You really have to check measurements and make sure it will fit!  Each brand is making things ever so slightly different as a means to make you use their lids and other items.

    https://www.amazon.com/Sauder-416443-Select-Aquarium-Stand/dp/B07D4MQS3T/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8

I picked up one of the Top Fin Stands. It's made by Sauder. My main gripe was when putting it together, two of the screw holes for the feet stripped easily.

Ended up going to Menards for larger screws.

The cabinet doors were difficult to adjust as well. On the plus side, there is a foot in the middle of the cabinet.

I don't know why some of the stands have only a few millimeters around the tank. The UNS 60s has about an inch or clearance in the front and back. And a few inches on each side. PXL_20231126_211626094_MP.jpg.02a3d6fb9c2fb7e6c98ec52f1dbf5b9b.jpg

I think, with a wide, shallow tank you like, the canister filter is a great option.

Internal filters would have to be turned on their sides.  HOB was be really obvious.  Neither is very aesthetically pleasing.

The HOB was very small too. I've used the Aquatop Forza 5-15 filters before. They are perfect for 3-5 gallon tanks.

Only piece of equipment in the tank will be a heater, which I use to keep the tank temperature stable.

That tank is gorgeous! Any idea what you're gonna put in there?

Currently, I have 6 Rice fish, 3 white clouds, 2 pygmy Cory's (started with 4), and an assassin snail I can never find. He makes an appearance then disappears.

The tank will be planted but I'm still trying to figure out how I want to scape it.

My hope is that my fluval nano or finnex planted plus clip will have enough spread. If not, I'll need a new light

Filtration will be handled by a Sicce Whale 120. I stopped by my lfs, we talked about the tank and how to filter it last week. The other options were an internal Aquatop with a UV sterilizer, or several tiny HOB filters.
