Yeah I guess time will tell.  But, I would focus on the fins. If they both exhibit elongated fins in an identical manner, and are roughly the same size, then they are the same sex. Coloration can vary to a degree, but fin shape/length and overall size difference should be key indicators.

    Thanks for your help!

The male is the only one I have to exhibit the purple coloration along the base of the dorsal

If you look at the first picture I posted it looks like they both have the purple coloration. Both males? But they sleep in the same coconut hut? I would’ve thought they’d be aggressive toward each other?? Maybe not since there’s no females in there??

Ok, so adding to my prior post . . . . based on coloration, I'm leaning towards two males. But as @anewie said, the pics are hard to see, but the top (left) fish appears to have much a more elongated dorsal than I see in my females. Hard to see in the bottom (right) fish. But I would say if their dorsal and anal fins are getting close to being as long as their tail, then you might have 2 males.

I was starting to think that too. One of their tails was seemed to be a male at first. Sleeper male maybe??

This is the one that looked male to me a couple months ago. Picture taken in May.

Agassizii don't pair; they are harem breeders with the male establishing a territory and claiming all females in that territory. The number of females depend on size of the aquarium and scaping. These are very important factors since the female will be aggressive to the male when she lays eggs and vice versa the male will chase female out of territory when they are not ready to breed. As to your specific question on the sex - i can't tell much from the pictures - they could both be males but the picture isn't very good. Also what size are they (are they mature?).

Thanks! They are around 6 - 8 months old. They sleep in the same coconut cave every night which made me think one male and one female 🤷🏻‍♂️

this is one of them. I don’t have other pictures of the other one right now. I’ll take one in a bit.

  6. Do we have any Apistogramma gurus in here? I bought these as an “attempted pair.” I used to be able to tell the difference between the two. Now they both look the same to me.  Do I have a pair?  Also, I don’t know why it uploaded sideways, and I don’t know how to fix it 🤣

Comes in a few methods, but the fish will swim, turn their body, then "itch" so to speak.

    Appreciate the video!

Like the fish are trying to scratch themselves by rubbing their bodies along the plants, substrate, or other things in the tank.

Thanks! I’ve never seen that before.

Or if you have a cabinet maker around they can do a great job.

That’s a great idea! A friend of mine is a cabinet maker. I could build the stand and get him to trim it out and make it look good.

you lucky duck!!!!! I think I would take my time setting up something like that, really plan it out to establish a stable ecosystem. Good substrate depth, tons of plants and rocks and wood; then I'd keep really beautiful and/or somewhat unusual fish that are normally recommended for like 20-40gal like panda garra, festivum cichlids, a chonky tetra like buenos aires or congo, and maybe some gigantic flower shrimp just for fun. But that's just me, I can imagine that tank sounds kinda crazy.

Ooh, or maybe a huuuuge swarm of...pygmy cories? regular size cories? something considered 'nano' but that does better in massive groups and would be a really unique sight to behold...

whatever you do, congrats and have fun! make us proud!!!!

    That all sounds great!

I'd be tempted by koi or goldfish. You really have got so many options.

I would possibly be tempted to keep it unheated so maybe a native tank could be fun.

What's your dream big fish ?

I have some goldfish outside, and I thought of bringing them inside. I’m not really sure of my dream big fish. I never thought I’d have a tank this big lol

Maybe the 'livebearer' tank with guppies

I could see a million guppies in there by next year 🤣🤣

7.2 ph, just about anything will go in that. if you are fairly handy and have some basic tools, you could build your own stand.

I thought about building my own stand. I’m sure I could build the stand, I’m just worried about the trim, doors etc. It will be my main display tank in the living room and I’d like for it to look good. I’d like to be able to hide stuff behind doors too.

Do you have any links on where to start building a stand?

Over dosing Methylene blue  can effect scaleless fish and have teratogenic effects causing functional changes to the swim bladder  of larval angelfish  I wouldn't recommend mixing it with other medications

For anyone else that needed to look this up 🤣:

    Definition of teratogenic

: of, relating to, or causing developmental malformations

  13. I was just gifted a 210 gallon tank from a family member! I’ve always wanted a big tank. It does not come with a stand. I also have no idea how to stock it!!

    1. I don’t think local stores carry a stand that size. Does anyone recommend an online retailer for a stand?

    2. My tap water is: 7.2 ph, 230 TDS. What fish would be a good choice for this water and tank size??

    Thanks!!

Worth a try, I colony bred Pygmy Corydoras for ages with Chilli Rasboras in just fine, as soon as I added Clown Killifish/Rocket Panchanx they ate the newly hatched fry

Good to know, thanks. I’ll keep the clown killi’s away lol

As tank mates they'd be great, but if your goal is to breed the cories and raise up some fry, I don't think it will work out like you want it to. Eggs and fry are delicious to fish.

That’s kinda what I figured. I don’t have room for another tank lol

They work great together! However, I'm not sure whether the eggs/fry of the cories will be safe from the endlers. Try putting in a lot of Java moss or something bushy to increase success rate.

Nice! I figured they would be good tank mates. I’ll try to get a bunch of moss in there, I’d like to get some fry from them.

Are you on a well. In south Florida the water gets pump to a large tank 200. Or mor gallons. It’s 94 out. It runs through a water softener  but the cold water is  over 80 in the house. The well is deeper and the water is about 10 degrees cooler. The issue if you call it one is it does go through the softener. Not sure if you can get I right from the well. Doesn’t help much if it’s a shallow well. I’m only about 5 miles from the gulf so to keep the water fresh wells are in the mid or deep aquifer mine is in mid at 200ft. If I had to use that water I would add water very very slowly. Just a trickle. It may take forever but I think the fish will be ok with that

No, we’re on city water. It usually cools down when I run it for a while. It didn’t last week lol

I'm curious why the tap is so hot. Usually you run it a while and it will cool because water lines are under ground where it is a steady 50 some degrees.

How long did you run the tap? Maybe run it longer

I thought the same thing and ran it for like 30 mins lol.
