  1. Pretty straightforward, but if I were to run a tank temperature on the lower end of the fish's tolerable spectrum, would this decrease the amount of waste the fish produces compared to a tank on the higher end? I'm thinking because it would slow down the fish's metabolism.
  2. Do you suppose an 8 inch bala shark could still get a good meal out of them?
  3. I am considering purchasing the micro wafers to add to mix. How large would you say the pellets are. I cannot seem to find any info on this online. Im wondering if they would be a suitable size for my medium to large sized fish.
  4. I'm not sure if this idea is already well known or not, but I am going to share it anyway. If you have fast, voraciously eating mid-water fish like I do, and you have to try to get those pellets or wafers down to your bottom feeders without your other fish gobbling them up on the way down, this may really come in handy. It sure has for me lol. Rather than risking overfeeding or having to distract the other fish or take the time to do who knows what, this has saved me a ton of time and energy, and has allowed me to stop worrying if my bottom feeders are getting enough food or not. What you do is you order/buy a small acrylic or pvc tube roughly slightly taller than your aquarium. I ordered an acrylic tube about an inch in diameter (although it doesnt really matter as long as your food fits down the tube). Im also really glad I got clear because I prefer to see the food fall and its fun to watch my other fish try to eat it and get blocked by the plastic. Now what I do is I just stick the tube in the tank to where the top sticks above the water but the bottom rests on my substrate. Then its just as simple as it sounds! Just drop a few pellets in and theyll be at the bottom safely for your bottom feeders to find. I will also add that I first saw this on another post from a while ago. I am not trying to take credit for the idea but merely trying to pass it along.
  5. Good to know. What kind of filtration do you run in it? Nitrate levels?
  6. I am looking for a quality, nutritious dry food that I should feed my fish. I would like it to be something to feed to my mid-top dwelling fish. I will also be feeding frozen bloodworms as well as other various foods occasionally in order to mix up the diet. I just want 1 or 2 easy foods that I can rotate between or feed a mix of every day that will help keep my fish healthy and happy. I currently feed freeze dried bloodworms daily but have found out that bloodworms themselves may not be the most nutritious. Im wondering what you guys use for a staple food, and what advice you all have for what I should do. Thanks.
  7. Hello, I actually recognized your name from another post you made on another forum a few days ago that I read haha. Nice to see that you're a Co-Op fan as well ;). Anyway, yes I am also trying to put together a stocking plan for a new tank and it is very exciting. I like the thoughts of all those loaches. After all, every real tank needs some fun bottom feeders. Val is also one of my favorite plants, especially when theres a large bunch of them. You could try getting some snails in your 83 as I find kuhlis dont eat them. I'm interested to see how this will all turn out.
  8. Hello everyone! Im planning a new 125 gallon long. I know it may be slightly overstocked but am wondering if it is doable. Gonna keep this short and sweet so here's the tank details and planned fish: Fish: 5 Dojo Loaches 6 Zebra Loaches 5 Panda Garra 10 Gold Barbs 4 Bala Sharks (I plan to return them to the LFS when they reach 7-8 inches) 8 Dwarf Neon Rainbowfish Tank details/filtration: 125 Gal Heavily planted (as well as pothos growing out of the top with roots dangling in the water) Fx6 Canister filter A powerhead Feeding a combo of freeze dried bloodworms/frozen bloodworms/hikari bottom feeder pellets Malaysian Trumpet Snails 35% water changes weekly There you have it folks. Let me know what your thoughts are. I appreciate any and all input and will not get upset if you disagree with me, so don't be shy, just share your opinion 😉
