  1. Thanks for the info 😊 I was thinking Jewles were passive. I’ve had them before but it’s been quite a long time lol.
  2. Thank you so much for this very helpful info. I get overwhelmed when searching for answers online.
  3. The tank has been up for months. Every time I check, the parameters it’s the same. I’m assuming it’s okay then?
  4. Thank you. I’m going to give it a try just to see if I can do it. If it fails, it’s no big deal, I can just put a small reptile in it. 😊
  5. Can someone tell me how to fix my water parameters? The picture I have included has my test strip on the left of the bottle to compare colors. Just in case you can’t read the conditions they are as follows; nitrate, nitrite, chlorine, hardness, alkalinity, and carbonate. the nitrates are a little high, nitrite is 0, carbonate is a little high, and ph is high I think. I’m not totally sure I’m reading this right. Advice would be much appreciated. My tank is 55gallons. I have 2 angels, 2 blue acara’s, 9 barbs, 2 khouli loaches ( I’m sure I spelled that wrong lol), 3 pleco’s, 2 German rams, 2 chocolate gourami’s, 2 killifish, and 3 powder blue gourami’s. the tank is heavily planted. one of my rams and killifish seem to be missing, but I am hoping they are hiding somewhere in the plants. I just set up a small tank for the chocolate gourami’s, killifish and rams. As soon as it cycles out, I am moving them to it.
  6. I will have to get you a picture later. I am out of town right now.
  7. My 20 gal tank has a large crack in the black trim and is leaking around the seal. What can I fix this with?
  8. Thank you. Very helpful. 😊
  9. Someone please tell me I didn’t screw up and buy a male and a female blue acara. I meant to purchase two males so I wouldn’t have breeding aggression. I am almost sure Big Blue is a male but not so sure about little Velvet. I bought Blue first, then a few weeks later added Velvet. He/she is younger than Blue and was only half an inch or so when I bought it. On the really small ones, it’s so hard to tell what you have. Blue does seem to be displaying mating behaviors but Velvet seems to be uninterested. Also, I have several plants I just purchased and placed in my aquarium. My only substrate is gravel and rocks. I’ve never done live plants before so I’m not sure the substrate is adequate. Suggestions???
  10. 😬😬😬 even if it is two males? I think I accidentally got a male and a female, I’m not sure. My bigger one, which is a male I’m pretty sure, is displaying mating behaviors.
  11. I have 2 kuhli loaches I added a few weeks ago, haven’t seen but one every once in a blue moon. Don’t know if I’m seeing the same one over and over again or what. 🤣🤣🤣
  12. I love the rock sculpture in your tank! 😊
  13. Hello all. I am kind of a newbie to keeping aquariums. I used to raise jack dempsy’s and jewel cichlids, but that’s about it. I got rid of my set-up years ago because I was afraid my tank was going to burst (the middle piece that kept it from bowing out broke so I gave it to someone who needed a reptile home). I just got back into keeping fish a few months ago when I came across a deal I couldn’t pass up. Mostly everything in my tank is natural. I have several live plants, and a couple fake ones. The substrate is rocks and sand from the creek in front of my house. I have ceramic decoration’s that I made and natural stones, petrified wood, crystal, and a few plastic figurines. My aquarium is a 55gallon tank that is stocked with 2 blue acara’s, 3 blue gourami’s, 2 killifish, 2 chocolate gourami’s, 2 loaches, 2 pleco’s, 9 cherry barbs, 2 German blue rams, 2 angels and a few snails. Cichlids have always been my favorite fish and I would like to add 2 Jewels but am afraid there is not enough room. I was told on a facebook group about aquariums that these fish should not be homed together. The store that I bought them from said it was fine. I know that blue acara’s are not very aggressive unless they are mating ( tried to pick 2 males, but not good at sexing them). The German blue rams are dwarf cichlids so I know they are not a threat to anything, however, I know nothing about the rest of the fish. Can someone tell me why they should not be homed together or even if the person that told me that is even correct. Don’t want nothing to happen to my babies.
