i Know you were thinking about lemons as well. I've never gotten mine to color up like you see in pictures. glass cats would be cool. but sort of invisible. I'm a member of Jason's channel and he has talked about having overstocked a tank of silver tips temporarily. they made a kind of silver fish cyclone

Yeah, Lemon tetra have been my top choice for awhile… but I’m easily distracted when it comes to Tetra… I always see “a cool new shiny” one that makes me rethink my choice 😂

try this if your interested in schoolers. my favorite was the brilliant green rasbora. my daughter was playing with these at the lfs. they were chasing  her hand around the tank in a very tight school

I am set on getting Congo tetra, but I’ve been seeing diamond tetra online and wasn’t sure how big they were compared to the Congo. I was wanting something little smaller so the Congo would be the focal/Centerpiece fish

  3. Got Peppered Corydoras on order. They’ll hang out in another tank for a bit until this tank it finished cycling. Could add a bottle of AquaSafe Plus and add them to the 75g - have had a lot of success with that approach so we will decide later.

Corkscrew Val seems to be hanging in. Upped my lighting and added EG ti the tank hoping overall melt won’t be too bad. Crypts have a little melt.. couple of Buce have completely melted- hoping they will bounce back. Moved a reg Bal from the 29g into the tank that hadn’t grown very much because it was being overshadowed by the Aponogeton. Maybe it will take off now that it has access to lots of light.

  4. Ok… Crypts. Love how they look, that they don’t require high light and I’ve never had a huge issue with melt and have easily split older plants into 2 to get… more Crypts! Also Anubias. Glue it to a rock, toss it in the tank- done!

I have a love/hate relationship with Pogo Stellatus Octopus… love that it grows fast and sucks up a lot of nutrients out of the water column… hate the constant battle of trimming it back before it swallows the tank whole

Did ACO used to sell a big container of Easy Green with the idea that you could refill your bottle? Or am I mixing that up with the Easy Fry Food?

Seems like I remember there being a much larger bottle of EG as well for refilling your smaller bottle.

  6. Unless you are in a well system or have a separate well for your exterior taps, then the water coming from your hose is the same water coming from your tap inside the house. So if your interior water source has chlorine, then so will your exterior water source (unless it’s on a well system).

as for temp.. if you are using a python/type water changer, you could try using a faucet from inside the house that you can adjust the temp closer to the water temperature in the tank. If not, then your other option is to store water in a large enough container with a heater prior to your water change or store it inside until it reaches room temp as long as there isn’t a huge difference between ambient temp and aquarium temp

  8. This will sound like a silly question, but when you refill… are you adding dechlorinator? If so, are you dosing for the full capacity for the tank and not just for the amount you are refilling? Are you adding the dechlorinator before or after you add water back?

  9. Totally jumping off the cliff here…. BUT….

spare 10g tank divided in half. One side place some black river rock (the chunky kind you’d only need a few pieces of - dollar store is a good place to find) the other side a light color rock. Take a piece of white poster behind black rock and a piece of black poster behind white rock and tape to back. Stick a fish in…  observe. Then switch sides with the poster board and observe… make your decision from there .

I am a closet GENIUS! j/k… it could work tho.

Allow me to offer an objective, impartial (and very much tongue in cheek) assessment of Wayfair's setups:

Choose salt or fresh water livestock, but don't mix both on a single stand. Maintenance nightmare. Also the salt water tank must be sump-less, I guess.

The goldfish tank on the bottom may have a slight overstocking problem. Maybe. Slight.

Angels with goldfish? Are we not better than this?

No way will the plants survive with the goldfish.

No way will the plants survive in salt water.

    Ummm... where are the filters?

Both tanks appear well lit, but a) where are the lights, and b) the light for the salt water tank needs MUCH higher kelvin.

Curious product placement in the cupboard with the screen/mesh door: Salifert ammonia test, and Salifert flatworm medicine.

Wouldn't it make more sense to have the integrated plugs on the inside of the unit, not the outside?

One serious note: the stand appears sized to take a 75 gallon up top, but doing ROUGH math at 10lbs per gallon, it's barely rated to take the weight, after substrate and etc are included.

Lastly, take a guess who has too much time on their hands?

    🙂

    A 75g is 4ft, the dimensions of the stand are only 20.5” x 36.2” … so it’s not big enough for a 75g ( and definitely not by weight) or a 55g. Maybe a 29g tall or 40g breeder?

    ***EDIT***
I didn’t realize there were 2 links..  I clicked on the first one… DUH.

i am in agreement about the second though… but yeah, definitely living on the edge with regards to the weight of a 75g on that stand. 55g would work though

@knee I bought my 75g stand at Petsmart on sale for $139… so maybe if you aren’t in a hurry. Wait for a sale?

Yes I do have mystery snails in that tank.

What do I do with the "clutch"?

    Will they hatch snails?

I am freaking out over this.

Well, that depends on if you want snails. If you do, then leave the be and if fertile, you’ll have baby snails. If not, then you can remove the clutch and dispose.

it’s my understanding that you can raise your water level so there is no available ‘dry’ area under the lid for them to lay eggs

  12. If it’s a small tank, a Turkey baster might come in handy for removing poo from the surface of the sand without having to do a whole water change. I did this for my 5g tank. Just used the baster to suck up a poo here and there until it was time for the next water change and gravel vac

  13. Well, transferred some bio rings from the 29g into the new filter and also added a good dose of Stability. Initial bacterial bloom is fading but we’ve now entered “Wood Fungus” phase. Exciting stuff.

Noticed a little bit of Crypt melt happening, but hopefully won’t be too bad having given each planted Crypt it’s very own ACO root tab and dosed the tank with Easy Green liquid and Iron. The Corkscrew Val came in looking really rough, hoping it will make it.

Got an ammonia spike going so now it’s just a waiting game of “when will nitrites rise”.
