Hello All, I could use some advice, Last night I did a 25% water change and added my first piece of real wood. I boiled this would for 20 mins and allowed to cool. This afternoon I noticed some aggressive behavior? I question this because google also said it could be mating. 2 glow fish were chasing / nipping at 1 other glow fish. I did a water quality test everything looks normal though the ph might be slightly lower, I say might because the strips are colors not numbers and i'm slightly color blind so who knows. If there are any remaining tanins after boiling can this lower the ph? If so, is less than 24 hrs to soon to do a partial water change. Happy New Year everyone! I could use some advice on how to go about adding a lid to a rimless tank. My tank is a top fin tank which the current lid is it's own piece with built in lighting. I'm looking to upgrade this lighting to a fluval light but in order to do so I would need to replace the lid to the tank. What is the best way to go about this? The new lid would also need to have accessibility to add the aquarium co-op auto feeder.

@nabokovfan87Only when i stirred up the substrate when vacuuming. After it settled i didn't see them anymore. next time i get a photo i'll upload.

So I was doing my normal gravel vacuum maintenance today and noticed half inch white wiggling things moving in the water. What are they and are they bad? If bad, how do i remove them?

Hello, I'm looking to add wood to my aquarium but places like petsmart only have fake, painted wood. I'd rather avoid paint in my aquarium, where should i look to purchase something like driftwood for my aquarium? Thank you

i'm not sure what kind, they are white. I'm assuming they are eating the plant because i keep finding holes in the leaves.

Hello, I saw the video on Reticulated Hillstream Loach's being good for spotted algae. My question is, do these fish work in a low flow environment? I've seen a few articles state that they need a high flow environment to survive. My current 20 Gallon tank Houses 6 glowfish and 2 nerite snails. I had a pleco (common?) for about a year but it recently died. Not sure why as the other fish are unaffected.

What are the target levels of Nitrate in a freshwater aquarium? My nitrate looks like its at 40ppm while my nitrite is near 0. It has been about 2 months since I have had to do a water change so the tank it self is fairly self sustaining. Also, is there somewhere that lists how often to feed certain fish? I've been feeding my glowfish once per day but i'm not sure if i should lower that to every other.

Thank you all for the replies. Yeah my GH is HARD as high as it can go but the glow fish seem to have no issue with it. nor the nerite snails or pleco. The Nitrite is 0 and i think the nitrate is 20 or 40 ppm, i can't really tell as the shade of pink is subtle. I haven't done a water change in about 4 weeks now so if it is 20 ppm, it would seem it is self sustaining now.

Hey Gang, This may be a noob question but what are proper aquarium water levels? The test kid "API" I have just gives parts per million but doesn't say what is good and what is bad. Also are their digital test kits? I don't know if its my color blindness but i'm having a hard time telling the difference in the different shades of the colors for example the nitrate goes from light pink to red. I can't tell if i'm at 20ppm or 40 ppm due to the shade.

Have any of you added a frame to a rimless tank? I'm not to sure why petsmart / topfin would make this as part of the starter kit when it seems that the industry has a rim on every single tank. This seems like the best option is to add the rim, add the glass + light.

@Patrick_G Thank you for the reply. Would the glass top work if the tank has no frame? It would just be glass meets glass unless they sell a frame somewhere? That's the issue I had with the amazon one. it made it seems like it included a frame plus the hood, no it was just the hood.

Hello All, I'm hoping one of you can point me in the right direction. I'm new to the aquarium business. I started out about 2 months ago with a top fin 20 gallon tank. I'm in the market for a new lid for my tank due to upgrading the crappy filter that it came with. I recently purchased a Tetra Perfecto Aquarium Hood Led from amazon. Took me a good long while to find this as they really don't have many options out there. It arrives and it is not as advertised it is only a replacement hood with hinges no frame included. Please send me any recommendations for a new lid that can fit the Aqueon 50 HOB filter. Preferably one with an LED light or room for one. Side note, do they make lids that work with the co-op automatic feeders? Thank you, Ryan
