  1. @Seattle_Aquarist No Pleco's in the tank just Amano shrimp, 1 nerite snail and 5 glow fish.
  2. Hey Everyone, So i think i've finally got my tank "balanced". I haven't done a water change in a week the Nitrate is at or below 50 ppm. I do easy green liquid every wed & Saturday, with a once per month addition of root tabs. For the longest time now even with high nitrate my plants have always had holes in them. Would this be caused by the white pest snails? I've given up on getting rid of them but i'm not sure what is causing the holes in the plants and i'd like to get your thoughts.
  3. Lately i have been changing the water once per week but ideally with a planted tank i'd like to not change it at all or only 1 per month. the light starts coming on around 6am and shuts off completely by 6pm, No blue light. Its a fluval 3.0
  4. Do Amano shrimp eat Staghorn Algae? So far they don't seem to be making a dent in it. I'm also using the Easy Carbon to limit algae growth. What else can be done? It's difficulty to manually remove all of it short of tossing out my java moss entirely.
  5. @Rube_Goldfish There are 0 nitrates in the tap water.
  6. Hello All, So it has been one week since i have stopped using easy green liquid and root tabs. I did this in order to hope that the plants absorb the nitrate. So far i don't think i've seen much improvement though my wife says i am color blind so hard to tell. I think the nitrate has remained at 50. But I have noticed that the plants themselves are starting to get wholes in them. The hair algae I had hasn't expanded but hasn't gone away either but because i've used the easy carbon it hasn't kept growing. I'm considering adding root tabs back in the hopes of the plants regrowing without holes and wanted to get everyone's thoughts.
  7. @Rube_GoldfishFish are fine, its just an algae issue.
  8. @DaraxYeah, I have java moss in there, 1 Anubis, 1 valensanoria and 2 crypt lucean. oh and a dwarf lily
  9. Hmm then maybe I should continue using it. I am having a lot of hair & Black beard algae on my java moss. My 3 amano shrimp don't seem to go after it. They are still small though.
  10. Hey All, My tank has always had high nitrate (50) so I added plants but at the same time I also started to use Easy Green fertilizer. Does easy green add in nitrates? I suspect it does since it hasn't gone done.
  11. @JJennaI mixed it in with the substrate. @nabokovafan87 I'm not sure your correct on 60-70 being good. According to aquarium co op, fresh water should be 70-140 ppm. But as there are only shades of color on test strips I'd guess mine is at 50 ppm, so it still has ways to go before i'd call it good.
  12. Hello, Recently I noticed that my PH had dropped to 6.4, my KH has always been low. Yesterday I finished adding 2lbs of crushed coral to my 20 gal tank. How Long should it take to raise the KH? Based on the test strips it is now higher than 40 ppm but not quite 80 + Thank you, Ryan
  13. @JJenna Yeah I saw that as well. That's my issue though, no where locally seems to sell these fish/shrimp. Any online retailer including aquahana will only see the shrimp in groups of 10 or the hillstreams in groups of 2.
  14. @TheplatymasterMine is a slow grower as well, I've used root tabs. I just ordered some easy green to see if that + the root tabs will have it take off. Right now it has only 1 formed lily, not even big.
  15. @JJennaYeah that's about the number that I thought as well. In the tank I also have 6 glow fish, I'm looking at getting 2 reticulated hillstream loaches. My light is a fluval 3.0 so I'd say its medium to high output. and i'm working on growing x2 dwarf lily, 1 Val, 2Amazon sword, 2 crypt lucen and some java moss.
  16. @JJennaDo you think 10 shrimp would work in a 20 gallon? I figured 3-6 would be the max, if 10 would work I would just order from Aquahuna.
  17. Hey Everyone, I live in Central Florida and I can't seem to find any petsmart or petco that sells Amano Shrimp. Any ideas on where else I should look. I have a 20 gallon tank so i was looking at getting 3, i think 6 or more would be to many for my size? Thank you, Ryan
  18. Is it weird that i'm not seeing any roots on my Dwarf lily after a week, I see only leaves. or what I was told was leaves.
  19. Sounds good, I could move the dwarf lily from the back to the mid just behind the wood. Its only been in the tank for 1 week now. Do you happen to know if the java moss will spread? Otherwise, i'll get another one of those.
  20. What do you think i should plant in the foreground?
  21. Hey Gang, As the title says i'm dealing with some Spotted Green Algae & Hair Algae. I cleaned the tank last week and within a week its back. My 20gal tank currently has 2 nerite snails (wanting to add a 3rd), 6 Glowfish, 2 Amazon swords, and newly added 1 java moss & 1 week old dwarf lily bulb. Lighting is the fluval 3.0 set on auto from 6am to 6pm. How best should i go about reducing this algae? I've thought about adding a Reticulated Hillstream Loach but my LFS does not carry them. I also don't think they would eat the hair algae, just the spotted green? Thank you, Ryan
  22. Hey All, This is my first time growing Red Dwarf Lily. In the attached picture, are these roots or the beginnings of leaves? If they are roots, I should probably put them substrate side down? Thank you, Ryan
  23. Hey All, What would be the best scraper for spotted green algae on aquarium walls. Currently i'm using a gift card, at one point i bought one of those magnetic ones that seem popular from amazon, It didn't work well.
