Steph’s Fish and Plants
My girlfriend took her betta home for a few months due to the pandemic and she was finally able to bring him to our new apartment today. A few months ago, while home, she noticed something was wrong with his eye but she couldn’t get clear photos of what it was. Well, his eye is Much worse than I thought and I’ve never seen this before, it looks almost like drop eye in Arowana (I think that’s what it’s called). My best guess is he poked it out on a fake plant she had? Idk. If anyone knows what this is tho please please I need some advice on what to do. I have fritz aquarium salt and maracyn, both from the coop, and some Indian almond leaves I can use.
Steph’s Fish and Plants
I think it might be Popeye? I’m going to treat with some salt and some maracyn
Steph’s Fish and Plants
Anyone with experience with salt or maracyn know if my plants, Amano shrimp, and nerite snail would be safe? Or should I setup my 10gallon as a qt tank?

And as far as I know maracyn has had no effect on any of my inverts.
Duane Perry
Salt will kill your plants. Narrite snails are from brackish water and will be fine with salt. I sugest a quarantine tank.

Steph’s Fish and Plants
Update: it’s been about a week, I initially dosed Maracyn and General cure and did a 15 minute salt bath about a week ago. Today I did a water change, a 15 minute salt bath, and re dosed erythromycin and general cure. He’s eaten for me once a few days ago and seems to be moving around a little more but he mostly just stays in one spot. His eye has shown no improvement, if anything it looks like the black has grown and his eye lid has been moved further down. I’ve tried using a mirror to get a reaction and no response, so I believe he is blind. I am starting to think the black growth is a tumor and not Popeye, but I’m not really sure. I’ve never seen this before. If anyone has any idea or can point me in the right direction that would be great. Also the water is cloudy from the water change and the meds
