Amazing thing is, there is a second sediment filter upstream of this, in my RO unit, and no sediment ever makes it through this to that one. I guess this is visual evidence that it's doing its job! Sometimes I wonder if I let them go too long. I think an indicator is not necessarily the color of the filter, but a reduction in water flow/pressure. My system has both pressure and flow restrictors in-line with the plumbing, and my RO unit has a booster pump, so for me, I doubt a drop in pressure would be noticeable. But yeah, when the filter looks like potter's clay, I guess that's also a good indicator. That filter is at least 6 months to a year old.
