Inert substrates recommendations

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I'm a beginner and I will be getting this upcoming week for the first time a betta and I wanted to use soil as my substrate to set-up a  planted aquarium. What substrate do you guys recommend that is Inert and will provide good plant growth? I have soft water which is why I want an inert substrate.

Thank you in advance

personally have had decent success with many of the ones listed however recently I’ve used a layered deep substrate of clay, capped with laterite, capped with dirt, capped with black sand and been pretty impressed with the results, some algae issues but most were due to my inexperience at the time of doing them and were rectified easily and in future tanks just by being more present, I hope this helps
