Ryan1988
Hey Everyone, I live in Central Florida and I can't seem to find any petsmart or petco that sells Amano Shrimp. Any ideas on where else I should look. I have a 20 gallon tank so i was looking at getting 3, i think 6 or more would be to many for my size? Thank you, Ryan
Theplatymaster
@Ryan1988 do you have a Local Fish Store? IF you do that would be a great source for plants and fish and shrimp. You could also go online and get some from somewhere like Aquahuna.com
JJenna
Aquatic Arts currently doesn't have any stock but you can opt for them to message you when they're back. You could pretty easily get 10 shrimp to start with depending on how many other fish you have.
Ryan1988
@JJennaDo you think 10 shrimp would work in a 20 gallon? I figured 3-6 would be the max, if 10 would work I would just order from Aquahuna.
mynameisnobody
I also live in Florida. I do have a few LFS, however it’s way over priced so I ordered a 10 pack from aquahuna. I will usually use my LFS for other things, but $10/Amano seemed excessive. You also have the option of getting a particular size. If you purchase the smallest they have, you can always grow them out and eventually use them in other tanks you may have/get. Good luck

Ryan1988
@JJennaYeah that's about the number that I thought as well. In the tank I also have 6 glow fish, I'm looking at getting 2 reticulated hillstream loaches. My light is a fluval 3.0 so I'd say its medium to high output. and i'm working on growing x2 dwarf lily, 1 Val, 2Amazon sword, 2 crypt lucen and some java moss. Ryan1988
@TheplatymasterMine is a slow grower as well, I've used root tabs. I just ordered some easy green to see if that + the root tabs will have it take off. Right now it has only 1 formed lily, not even big.
JJenna
You may want to consider the number of hillstreams you put in. Per Aquarium Co-op, "We recommend getting just one or a group of three or more. If you get two, the stronger one may bully the weaker one over food or territory". Ryan1988
@JJenna Yeah I saw that as well. That's my issue though, no where locally seems to sell these fish/shrimp. Any online retailer including aquahana will only see the shrimp in groups of 10 or the hillstreams in groups of 2.
MattyM
Wherever you get them - put a tight lid on the tank and foil or something over gaps, I've lost a few b/c they are escape artists!
mynameisnobody
Seems like a great excuse to acquire more aquariums. 😎
