Happy New Year Rainbow Nerms!!

I’m the proud new owner of some Chilatherina Upper Tor from @Hoon Aquatics which I’m very pleased to have in the Australasian tank. 3C2767C5-D1BF-4A96-8F5C-E89DAD9F2BCC.jpeg.a11443d6ef3dcbc6a38cc0a2565cc99e.jpeg80DA216D-1636-4B68-9E3A-A327D264F68D.jpeg.03f41a5822878caeb027dbc00cfb54dd.jpegEAB0B4A4-2A6D-41C0-A8EC-4A7630E89794.jpeg.43f314fd921fdc2a3d47fb337d09ec8f.jpeg1CFE0B06-287E-45D9-A66D-CAF3089C4117.jpeg.6e5192c32f662953594db52b3ff63b0b.jpegA020D3F5-1F44-4194-8E4E-10010E88D68E.jpeg.2145d59e2a4033ea954eb60ce1fa8c4f.jpeg

They are adolescents like my Aves Creek Boesmani so it’ll be fun to see them color up.

In the background of some of the pics you'll see my other rainbow pickup the Madagascar 🇲🇬 rainbowBB72B532-FF25-433B-82B4-4CE01AA56DD1.jpeg.f54e4c3364ff192539c2810211e08f44.jpegE74C2A77-B4B0-46C3-9D64-5F751F3EC454.jpeg.e77c09934b2113411e4ae4b4a789601d.jpeg

Ive got 3 males and so as time goes on I’ll try to get equal or maybe 3:5 ratio of boys to girls.

Happy Rainbowfish Keeping!!

In the states they’re quite common @TheSwissAquarist. Often they only sell the males as the females like many rainbows are quite plain. The males x 2 have taken up camp on either side with the single female in the middle of the tank. D79D5A9E-2309-4EB6-945D-11FC59399332.jpeg.b319f28b97ec8602c4056c073a012803.jpegB8249EAA-7891-487C-BC4D-A13719748B94.jpeg.e97fdb2c07971d75abd80bb6f21cbe26.jpeg

In terms of the boesmani I’ve really seen a change in the last week or so seeing some adult coloring now and then.  6325507B-78EA-4ED2-AA2A-8895255658C6.jpeg.a01ddba7bd96edb61cfa837012205884.jpegE28170BE-96D9-45FE-9309-E0832B5C6D0A.jpeg.55fdbf76e46a097f6816821b87390fd4.jpeg851327E1-484A-428D-B2B2-AFD79C65CB90.jpeg.023741449b5b138cd1ae696e7ecb56c5.jpeg64FBFFB2-B621-4272-989F-8B7EF138EC76.jpeg.68370e875ab391e6a59b452f19c4b049.jpeg

The Upper Tor have amazing potential. There’s a ton of shimmer in their scales and one of these days I’ll catch the alpha male in his best coloring. E7534284-C441-4E68-BB4A-FE6F8BA8B5C5.jpeg.4937356b4caabb7eee28530fbb327459.jpeg774D126C-6569-4888-961C-9678E77DB512.jpeg.7a0f2b1a51b0c590f221786c753170e2.jpeg3AE40404-CF12-42A4-9C1D-B1686DF1C550.jpeg.469498d98083c02aefec0f33c2111703.jpegDF0C7E3F-867D-4F40-9C85-0DFF6FBC853E.jpeg.63e98ceec4a1d5d5a0d62e42fa790c0d.jpeg

My Rhadinocentrus Seary Creek group are coloring up great. They had columnaris which really attacked their mouths and several are permanently disfigured. However, they’re very healthy and a very exciting group. Not camera shy they start flashing thinking foods on the way. ADDD5383-DC43-43EF-9214-925A3C5DAF55.jpeg.0ba64435f642f51dfb9e0b5f211bb88e.jpeg5A933BC3-2876-4B4A-B3A3-14754C6CB825.jpeg.6c1246c67901eb3bea25d93e7d1e0d1b.jpeg8CF8AD38-D1E7-4520-81D8-2B90001845B1.jpeg.3326a193b7082fbad1806fb349eace7c.jpeg8B2067FD-0370-4EAE-9F0F-B062A8EF8525.jpeg.d0239bc851c6d0e5d778cd481987fe67.jpeg44CE961D-A998-44AA-8E29-FA5702CDE554.jpeg.7ce92e1ee07cf1f48c90b36398f91dc1.jpegE911EFF4-6545-4F1C-8A39-D67BC7220843.jpeg.3ebbcb39e6ff963017e925132fb662f7.jpegCADF9ABF-9D1D-43B9-8C9D-F8EC31CFFCFB.jpeg.43af167b63ae3e53877f0552a19be2e7.jpegF9D5BD17-73DE-4E61-A423-E5A119797903.jpeg.1cedfd328623b9e41d74470e59fe6363.jpeg

They’re amazing and so action packed. I think what I like most about them is them at their color is there more often. It take very little for the reds and black outlines to come out as the blue and white spangling is there all the time. This is a fish that would be very at home in a 20 long.

Those colours are pretty awesome!

Not often that I find a whole new type of fish that I didn't even know existed (not rainbows, just the ornates), and now obviously need. Thanks! Gorgeous 🙂

I have about 10 furcata rainbowfish fry that are about half an inch long in a grow out tank. when do you think they would be safe to move to my main tank with the adults?

Furcatas have relatively small mouth and throat, so at half an inch in size the main concern for the youngsters would be feeding compatibility, ie do they get enough food? I don't see any chance of them being eaten, unless you're overestimating the size.

@TOtreesMy rhads are great I lost some with the various calamities I’ve had this year but got a group of youngsters at my club auction from Gary Lange’s line. Right now they are bluish silverish minnows but eventually they turn into this. IMG_1315.jpeg.b879a2704a2cf17126a65f238e6f40b1.jpeg

like most rainbows they’re much cooler in person. Let me see if I’ve got some video I can post. Sometimes that captures them better. Heads are orange 🍊 stripes from mouth to neck, all the fins are outlined like a cartoon inker touched them up, then the tails go from orange to a deep red as does the head to match.

I think you’ll be good with the furcata. Crush up the flake and they’ll find the pieces that work for them. Some of mine used to carry it around and let it soften then eventually eat. (Luminatus)
