Tank mates and cleanup crew for a male Betta in a 12 gallon tank

I'm planning to order a  UNS 90B 12 gallon tank w/ lid.  I plan to do a planted/carpeted tank with a male Hellboy betta the centerpiece. I was thinking ember tetras might make a nice set of tank mates, but I've got green neon tetras in my 29 gallon tank, so I'd love some suggestions. Also, I'd welcome some thoughts on an appropriate cleanup crew.

Kuhli Loaches, Amano Shrimp, Corydoras or Nerite snails are pretty good clean up crew.

I would also suggest chili rasboras as a great schooling fish. If you wanted to do something like a biotope type scape where most of the fish come from similar areas, you can look at doing either Kubotai rasboras or Rasbora Hets with your betta and Kuhli loaches as your bottom dwellers.
