Hoi Polloi
Swiss Tropicals has the Jetlifter behind the sponge. The heater and bulkhead behind the sponge as optional. Edit: Link to pdf file at Swiss Tropicals on setup. Besides the Jetlifter I have the heater behind the sponge and the roots of a pothos plants. P.s. The pothos leafs are a deep vibrant green too. Aaron Hanson
Other than the lift tube, I would add bags of peat, crushed coral, carbon, or bio rings/ cycling media behind to keep out of sight, but still reap the benefits. Finding the right balance of space behind the filter to house the equipment and unsightly things, but minimizing it’s footprint in the aquarium proved to be a challenge for me when I used them. They do make photography and video easier for tanks that are end-on-end, however. Always pros and cons😅
gardenman
Just be forewarned, fish will often end up behind a Matten filter. Fry will squeeze through an impossibly small opening and adult fish may jump over and in. You often hear of people finding a missing fish or unexpected fry behind their Matten filters. Having one placed so you can easily inspect what's behind it is wise.
