Jerry
Hello, I purchased young red cap medaka ricefish a few weeks ago and have them outdoors in a 40 gallon tub, today I found one that looked like it had died a couple of days ago, when I removed it I found several red worms eating it would this most likely have been a parasitic worm or a larva taking advantage of an easy meal? I was going to take a photo but accidentally stepped on the dead Ricefish while checking my other tubs thanks, Jerry
Shadow_Arbor
This might be pretty tough if impossible without a picture. Can you better describe the worms? Shape, width, length? Also did it look like the worms had eaten the fish from the inside out or outside in? Sorry for the gruesome question.
Jerry
Hi Shadow_Arbor, They looked like blood worms, it’s hard to tell if the fish was eaten from inside or not. It fell apart as soon as I took it out of the water and had been dead for awhile. Half of my outdoor tubs are at my parents house so I don’t see them everyday it’s possible the fish had died a couple days beforehand. thanks for trying to figure this out
