Flumpweesel
Well I'm sick of shedding plants I'm forever fishing water sprite and ludwigia out of the aquarium. What would you recommend for a background medium light aquarium preferably quite a dark leaf colour I enjoy the contrast with the brighter swords in the mid ground. Guppysnail
I like large Amazon swords Echinodorus grisebachii and anacharis elodea densa. When the elodea gets to tall just chop the top off and replant. Super easy grows fast in almost any condition. I’ve also become fond of Aponogeton longiplumulosus I leave it messy look trim to make it neater it’s very dark but gets very tall. You can snip the tops of those leaves as well. Pictures from low tech med light tank no fertz gravel substrate. Forgive the yucky glass that’s my nerites food. The elodea and aponogeton being cut from tips can accommodate any height tank. (Edit to add Vallisneria but I do not have any right now ) Edited April 19, 2022 by Guppysnail 5
Minanora
My choices depend on the depth of the tank. Medium light, in a 45-60cm depth background plants I really like, Myriophyllum aquaticum (fine texture leaves and there are many varieties of myriophyllum), pogostemon stellatus octopus, Hygrophila Pinnatifida, Barclaya Longifolia (reddish plant). For a shorter tank, Alternanthera Rosanervig is striking... There are tons of options. I often use Tropicas inspiration search tool to get ideas. You can search by tank volume, plant difficulty, and generally they have all of the species listed that are used in each layout.
