Anders Posted March 27, 2022 Posted March 27, 2022 Hi!I´m planning to try out a BCB bag (caught the idea from Dr Novak) in my sump. But I'm having the hardest time finding claybased kitty litter that is NON-clumping (baked) here in Sweden. There is a few option for the clumping kind made from 100% clay, but by my experience that doesn't work. The kitty litter turns into a "mush" that clouds the water, asi it seems, indefinately...Is there any alternative to kitty litter? And is it just a matter of CEC?Thanks!/Anders
Scapexghost Posted March 28, 2022 Posted March 28, 2022 Kitty litter is used as a budget alternative to laterite, so if money is no issue i would see if a laterite based aquarium substrate is available.
Anders Posted March 28, 2022 Author Posted March 28, 2022 So this could work (see picture)? It is burned clay. Judging by it's color it seems to contain some iron? 23 USD for 15l (4 gallons) isn't crazy expensive. I guess I should pack the material pretty tight in the bag to ensure that the water mostly passes around the bag and not through it?

(Kitty litter is used with laterite.)
