McB00STED
Hey everyone, I picked up a new 10G aquarium from Petco today and I got it home to see some odd shapes, lines on the glass, and I'm wondering if they're silicon and I don't need to worry, or cracks/scratches that I should be concerned about. Thank you all for the time!
Tihshho
Are the scratches in the glass? I know I've run into loose stands of excess silicon a bunch from manufacturing. Scratches could be felt by a fingernail. If it was excess silicon you should be able to remove it by hand or with a razor blade. blade. McB00STED
It seems like it, I can feel the textural differences when I run my hand or fingernail over it, but it doesn't seem to want to come or scrape off.
Tihshho
If the object is a bump in the glass, i.e. raised, then it's most likely excess silicon from manufacturing. If its deep it would be a scratch. I'd carefully attempt to scrape the area with a razor and see if it's able to be removed.
McB00STED
Unfortunately I don't have a razor handy, but they feel raised, so my guess then is its probably silicon. Thank you for your help!
mynameisnobody
I would carefully attempt with a razor. A putty knife will also do. Whenever I purchase aquariums at the $1 per gallon sale, I always seem to end up with an aquarium with loose silicone all over it. Although, for the price I’m not complaining.
