  1. Looking for recommendations for powdered food to keep on hand for unexpected fry.    I have dwarf gouramis, and some other small fish, that breed but I can't keep the fry alive.   In the absence of live foods, I think they just starve to death.  I have tried  Sera powdered fry food, but no luck.  Thinking maybe freeze dried daphnia?    TIA! 🙂

I have six tanks, and I like to do all my testing and maintenance on the same day, but I only have three test tubes (since I constantly break all the api ones) and I hate having to stop and wash them between every tank or twice a tank. So... This was my solution! I'm so proud of this. I found a piece of scrap wood in my dad's shop and used a drill press to put all the holes in. I ordered a pack of 30 test tubes for like 8 dollars on amazon. I bought a whiteboard poster board at the dollar store and peeled off the dry erase part, cut that into little pieces, and used some white glue to stick them down. I used a power sander to round up the corners and give it a touch of fancy! I'm so proud of this and it makes testing sooo much easier.

love this! I broke half my API tubes. 😖How are you stirring the solution? Did the tubes come with caps ?

  3. I got tired of clearing my standard sink drain strainer of plant leaves. This is the simple solution I came up with. Its a wire mesh desk organizer held above the sink bottom by a wooden stick. I dump my bucket of siphoned aquarium water into it, then knock the leaves it catches into the trash pail. Maybe this will help someone. 🙂

What abut something like this?  image.png.a97d80f205c388c08dfdbcea9db593b6.png

Looks solid, flat bottom will distribute the weight. I like the big cabinet it the middle because you can put some nice chunky vertical frames in the center section, to transfer weight to floor and prevent any sagging. If the dresser top isn’t perfectly level, adding the additional frame in the middle will solve this. Just based on photo, I’m thinking it would work.

  5. I have a similar dresser which i intend to use as an aquarium stand for a 75g.  But i’m going to remove the drawers and put cabinet doors on the front. The reason for that is so I can fit a sump inside and brace all around, including behind the legs.  I’m concerned that it may bow in front where the openings for drawers is a structural weakness.

  6. It depends on the furniture.  Its difficult to advise over the web, without inspecting what you have, but if you have a solid piece of furniture, it may be sturdy enough on its own, or can be braced inside / behind with additional framing.   Basically you want a flat surface to distribute the aquarium's weight evenly, and solid vertical framing to transfer the weight directly to the floor evenly.   No overhang, no spindly legs, no wobble or bowing.

  7. i think it would look great there! My only concern is that its a passageway area where people only glance at it. Perhaps you could add a seat or two for leisurely viewing. Tank should always be in a place where it can be seen and appreciated, the need to stay on top of maintenance is a plus not a minus! That way you and the fish get the most benefit. Also the dimensions should fit the space in proportion. Something big, about the same footprint as the cabinet would be perfect. A 10g would just look lost and sad.
