  1. I don’t have any experience with susawassertang, but I think all of the others would work well together. They can all do well under low light so it looks like you are putting some good research in. 😊

You might just have to do a good bit of weekly trimming with the Bacopa Caroliniana. Plus with its height the duckweed may get entangled in it, but that’s duckweed with any plants that I have had lol.

If you go this route please share pictures!

  2. Awesome post!

After seeing posts like this and viewing LR Bretz videos regarding killifish, I must say I am becoming more and more intrigued by these beautiful creatures. What a personality too! Why are they not more popular? I have three fish stores in town and have never seen one on display.

One thing that is keeping me from trying them out is that I have heard they are notorious for jumping out of tanks. I have a topless tank that has a dense mat of water lettuce on top and pothos growing around the rim. I know anything could happen, but would this help prevent them from jumping, or is this a "no way, must have a lid" fish?

  3. Thank you for the input. What I am looking for is something that will literally get into or rather dig into the gravel to get where my Amano shrimp or RCS can’t go. They take care of business on the surface of the gravel and above, but I have a layer of buildup that they cant get to about an inch or so into the gravel. I didn’t know if there was a type of worm or something out there I could check out lol.

  4. Hello! I have a pretty dense carpet of dwarf sag and have a hard time vacuuming the gravel against the glass. I am hoping there is a critter of some sort that could get into gravel to lighten the load some overtime. I hear MTS could help, but I have eco complete and not sure if they could travel/turn the gravel too well. Do you have a recommendation for a fish/Invertebrate or something you do that helps you get around plants?

  5. @CasualDad I appreciate it! I know LRBretz knows a good bit about RCS and has mentioned FFF often. I asked him during his last livestream about the two and he pretty much said it wouldn’t end too well for the RCS.

I have read a good bit about them and it seems that these guys are borderline species only lol.

Here's a photo of mine awhile back along with some Rainbow Shiners622672597_ScreenShot2022-07-22at12_27_47AM.png.10b6812bbc485620d2d65a83e987138b.png. Female has the. black spot on the back of the dorsal. Male does not...

They are beautiful. A lot of them in the pictures I have seen have a stunning emerald shine. I think I like that a lot more verses the red stripes in which they are pretty known for. How are they with plants? Do they nip at your Val any?

Not sure how everyone would get along, but my experience has been that male Flaggies can become quite lively and aggressive. Females are calmer.

Thank you so much for the comment! I have been intrigued with these guys. I’ll do some more research! 😊

  8. Hello all! I hear that a Florida Flagfish could make a nice community fish, but may show some signs of aggression. Has anyone ever kept one with endlers or red cherry shrimp? I’m sure like most fish in the hobby it would snack on fry and shrimplets, but would adults be ok?

  9. I have a baby BNP and some new Crypts. The crypts are on week two in the tank and there were a few leaves that melted. There are still some older leaves left on the plants and today I noticed on at least three plants there were spots that looked like something took a chunk out of them. The Pleco gets fed regularly and has plenty of wood to munch on. Are these plants still melting back or could it be the BNP? I have heard they can go after Amazon Swords, but can crypts be on the menu too?

  10. Hello all! About a month ago I bought about 5 stems of pogo and instantly cut all but one into smaller pieces to get more background spread. The cuttings rooted quickly and produced about 2-3 small stems each where the cuts were made, but they have not really grown that much over these last couple of weeks. The one I didn't cut is already 3x it's original size. I keep the tank at low-medium light, add fertilizer/iron weekly and the leaves look very vibrant. Just wondering are they still adjusting? Has anyone ran into this?

My dwarf sag has always grown super quick which is why right now that's all I have in there because I'm worried of it taking over the tank.

Mine seriously started with 5 small twigs and you see it now lol. The good news is it is pretty easy to control. I do maintenance once a week and when I see it trying to mix in with my crypts or pogo I just pull it out and replant somewhere else or give it away.

  12. I see I see. If it were me I would place jungle val in the back left then. That stuff can get pretty thick and tall. Understandable about the roots the good thing about dwarf sag is it will help cover stuff like that over time. I have a pretty big anubias in the corner of one of my tanks and if you look at the corner it is you will see root city, but if you look from the front or anywhere else you would never know the roots were there.

  13. Looks awesome! Also, is that Anubius Nana Petite growing on the edge of that piece of wood? I like the size of the leaves. I was thinking of planting either it, Nana, or a crypt under my driftwood where it is resting on the rocks, but can't decide.

  14. I chopped it up just a little and glued it to my driftwood. Been over a week or so now and the shrimp are loving.  I am starting to get growth and it's starting to cover up the spots where the glue was exposed. My Christmas moss smelt very earthy when I got it. Out of all the plants I have dealt with it is definitely the only one that let me know it was there lol 🤣

  15. I went to the LFS today to pick up a couple of nerite snails for my mother-in-law and noticed some cryptocorn for $2 in a Cherry Shrimp tank and decided to grab some for me. I swung home on the way to the in-laws to drop the plants off and decided to check out the leaves on the crypts through the bag. That is when I noticed this plant is covered in planaria and it was about to go into my shrimp tank 🤦‍♂️ My heart dropped to my stomach. I am going to treat the plants, but should I treat the nerite snails just in case or just make sure the planaria387EE616-9ED6-4F2D-9055-84B77BD7C938.jpeg.971c5989a71b14d67e6253bd63eb5f06.jpeg doesn't get into the in laws tank?

These guys are super adaptable and the recommended Ph according to this blog is 6.5-8.0. I just wonder if 8.2 is going to make that much of an impact and who is to say test kits are even that accurate you know? I have heard of people keeping them in levels higher than 8.0 and with no bad reports. Are they breeding? I have not idea. Cory has said in the past that he has bred Hillstream Loaches in hotter water temps than was recommended and I am surprised he didn't break the internet. The only way to find out put a pair in there without the hopes of them breeding and see if they surprise you.
