  1. I love dirty jungle scapes, i find the fish are always happier than they would be in a sterile "perfect" scape, but at the end of the day we are keeping boxes of water in our homes so i think as long as the fish are happy and healthy, whatewver anyone wants to do is fine.

As for missing fish, I once had a 10g community where the last fish finally died, so I was going to take it down and redo the whole thing. in the process I found a pair of otos I thought had died months prior ( i hadnt even been feeding them, so i have no idea how they survived) so I had to get a small tank set up for them and my remainiong betta from another small tank. They lived for another year or two if i remeber right.

Huh... like there was low O2 in the water?  I suppose that is possible... woudnl't suspect it due to the amount of plants I have in there.  What is a titration test?

My tank is also crazy heavily planted

But like others have said, plants consume O2 at night instead of CO2.

A titration test is a liquid test, there are differant types, I used the thai brand Monitor, but they make electronic meters as well but they starty at $100

  3. After adding an airt stone last night, and testing my DO today, im possitive it was a DO issue. even with the air stone I only have around 5-6ppm of dissoolved oxygen, which is fine, but I was expecting it to be higher. Granted i live a mile above sea level so that may be why.

Glad I was able to actually test it. I did notice that after adding the air  stone my fish and shrimp are quite a bit more active, so I really do think that was the culprit. Thanks to everyone who helped!

Any luck getting the Venturi attachment to work?

Do you have other tanks, or is this your only one?

Also, for some reason I can’t see the image with your water tests. Could you try re-uploading the picture?

Im going to mess with it now that im off work, (update: lost a small fitting for the venturi so i just ordered a pump and air stone)

and this is currently my only running tank, I sold the 5 i had when i moved across country in 2020.
    Sure no problem!

I forgot to add the PH info but its been stable at 7.2

Nothing else is coming to mind  it might just something as simple as low levels of desolved oxygen adding an extra air stone well solve that

thats what im starting to think, i'll be adding an air stone asap, but on the bright side the ghost shrimp i got to be my guinea pigs are thriving, so im hesitant to believe its a water chemistry issue out side of the dissolved oxygen.

  5. I have lost 4 fish in the last month in a tank that is cycled and the plants are thriving.

I have no idea whats going on. The temp is between 72-76 and these are my API liquid test readings since the 10th, with the last reading being today. In addition to this I also tested for stray voltage and the tank was fine in that regard as well.

This is a video my husband took of the fish while I was out this evening, they were fine when i left, exploring the tank and bahaving normally, and dead when i got home 4 hours later. the fish were perfectly healthy and came from a local breeder. there were no signs of illness to be seen aside from the expected stress of being netted and transfered to a new tank. they were turkana jewel ciclids.

The other two fish died in 4 days, and 2 days respectively, these onese didnt even last 9 hours.
I have no idea whats going on. My snails are doing fine, and my mystery snail especially is thriving, but i cant keep fish in this tank to save my life.

The tank contains flourite black sand substrate, river stones, seiryu stone, spider wood, and various plants that are all doing very well. The filtration is a nicrew internal filter at 50gph, using marine pure gems biomedia, marineland filter floss, and coarse filtration sponge.

Ive never had this happen and i have no idea whats going on.

    So much this.

I can share my workaround, if you would like. I have thinning myelin, so nerves like to give muscles inaccurate directions.

Plus, someone in here recommended a paint shaker with an adapter for the test tubes😁

Oh yes please! I dont know what my problem is, i have one of those issues drs seem to think im either making up or its just not a big deal.
I'll have to look into the paint shaker too, could be very helpful, thank you!

  7. I want easy electronic probes for all the water perameters I could ever want to test. These would just sit in the tank and give me live readings via a timed graph, that I can read trends as far back as a year.
Ive got dexterity issues and my hands decide to yeet things into oblivion sometimes, and a probe would be a lot more robust than the API test tubes. I lose about one a week and it's really getting expensive. 😥

  8. Ive moved a few large tanks.

You will need a truck or van to move the tank, and several furniture blankets (you can rent these from moving services) to cusion the tank during transport. Thats the easy part tbh

The hardest part about moving fish is breaking everything down and putting it back up for the fish.
You want to keep all your fliter media wet during transport, to save the bacteria. I'd get some reputible bottled bacteria as well to be safe, as a move is a huge shock to a system.
Keep all the decor and plants wet as well, in tank water. 5gal buckets from home depot are the best for this.

Then once the tank is leveled and ready, just set everything back up as you would normally. If you want to run an airstone for the goldies i think that would be a good idea.

But you can put the fish back in once everything is set up and the water is the correct temp. I float them in ziploc bags just like i would if they came from the pet store.
