I found Feo dead in his tank a little bit ago. Should’ve expected something like that to happen, because the rest of the bettas looked particularly bad last night at the petco but he looked the best health wise. I guess the stress was too much for him.

I went to petco last night for some plants and this guy was too ugly to pass up. I had to get him to balance things out due to Karl being so pretty. His name is Feo which means “ugly” in spanish. He’s a halfmoon king betta. Didn’t say anything about his coloration, though.

Okay! Now for the plant list I ended up getting: b. heteroclita x2, anubias nana x2, m. pteropus x2 ( crested java fern & a regular java fern, ig ), & aponogeton sp.

So, they didn’t have a whole lot of variety so I ended up getting some Anubis and some other stuff i’ll have to look at again bc i can’t remember off hand. Anyways…..I also got this guy because he was too ugly to pass up. He’ll be going into my 15gal. No self control on my part, haha. Good thing I have tanks that are cycled.

Yeah, I have a light that can grow the plants. I do already have some liquid fertilizer, so I’m good on that front too. I just wasn’t sure how petco’s plant selection was since I’ve gotten most of my plants by ordering online from local aquaswaps. I know petco’s stuff ( and petsmart) has some things that are guaranteed to be free of pest snails which is one of the big things I’m looking for.

Pretty much the title. My 10gal is currently void of plants and I got a gift card to petco, so I’m wanting to use it to get live plants. It’ll be for a betta and I already have a mopani wood centerpiece. The substrate is fluval flourite black sand and I was wanting stuff that covered back, middle & front.

no idea why everything uploaded upside down, but I’m not gonna try to figure it out. Karl settled into the tank last night. Do you think I could get away with cherry shrimp or would he murder them?

Oh, I definitely ordered some and it was supposed to be delivered today but we got a huge storm and it flooded big time, so everything has been rescheduled. I even got him mopani wood, so it would leach out tannins for longer and give his tank more of a blackwater look. I even got him a new little cave so he can hide in. I’m wanting to get him more plants, but I was waiting to actually go to the LSF to pick them out

Unfortunately, I didn’t/don’t have any almond leaves on hand and I haven’t been able to go anywhere. I was able to add in another air stone and turn his heater up, though. I also put more stresscoat because it also has aloe vera in it…I figured it would help with his burns. I managed to get his parameters back to where they should be. He’s still not 100% which is to be expected. He hides in his floating log most of the time but he’ll still eat, at least. here’s what he looks like today. you can tell he still doesn’t feel good, but he’s better than what he was. his burns don’t look as red either, so hopefully he’s on his way to healing

I was using maracyn 1 & 2. I hope he bounces back, I think I traumatized him. He’s afraid of me now. He’ll swim down to the bottom of his tank and hide as soon as he sees me. If he’s in his floating log and doesn’t see me, he’ll hide as soon as he hears the lid open. He won’t come back up until I leave even if I feed him.

No, I have an aquaclear so it has the sponge & matrix. I’m pretty sure the medication ( antibiotics ) caused it to crash and I wasn’t doing big enough water changes and/or not frequent enough.

Rascal is still going but my cycle crashed and I didn’t notice. The ammonia was 0ppm but the nitrites were at ungodly amounts and he now has these discolored patches on him. At first, I thought he just burnt himself on the heater but then I saw the nitrites. I’ve taken care of the levels, but now what should I do for him? He’s developed some fin rot too.

Well, that does make be feel better. It’s a big pouch of activated carbon, though. Anyways, I’m eventually going to treat him again with the pouch removed this time. I also have the whole menagerie of medication this time ( maracyn 1 & 2, paracleanse & ich-x ).

So, Rascal is still with us and seems okay, but still kind of lounging at the top. It seems I’m an idiot and was absolutely convinced my aquaclear filter never came with activated carbon, so I never checked. Guess who figured out it does when I was switching filters on Rascal’s tank and likely wasted a weeks worth of maracyn 2 treatment?

Not that I can see but it’s hard to tell with the white belly. I don’t see anything that sticks out when I try to view him from the side but I could be at the wrong angles? Though, is that even 100% with young bettas?

So, I picked this guy ( what he was bought as ) up yesterday and I believe he has a 9/20 hatch date ( date on the cup; employee said they had just gotten them in the day before ) which would put him around 3 months old. Is he actually a boy or a girl? Right now he’s only around 1.5” and is tiny. Calico is already flaring but the gills are transparent so I can’t tell if it forms a full beard.

Has anyone used the hygger HG-908 sponge filter in their 10gal tank? Is it too big or about the right size? Also, how would you go about making the switch from a HOB to the sponge filter? Having them run at the same time and then remove the HOB after so many weeks?

Pretty much that. Adding a 6th tank doesn’t sound like a bad idea, but I don’t want it to be too big as it’ll probably be in my room. I kind of want something with more than one fish but I don’t know what I want or if a 20gal is even worth getting?

Yeah, he’s always been like that until recently. He would follow as you walked by the tank and if you stopped to look at him, he’d flare. But I appreciate any help. Here’s the link to it for the ease.

yeah, another sick betta. I got him back in August from petco and he’s been active up until a week ago. Now all he does is stay at the surface and in a certain corner of the tank. He’s also terrified of his reflection when he’d used to flare at it immediately. I’ve given him epsom salt baths twice a day for 3 days but stopped as I felt it was just stressing him out. At this point I’m kind of spitballing and treating with maracyn 2 because I thought he might’ve had the start of dropsy and he has a split in his tail ( that might’ve been my fault ). Rascal is in a 10gal with a filter & air stone, so there shouldn’t be an oxygen issue but he’s always breathed kind of heavy. His heater keeps the tank at 78f, ammonia 0, nitrites 0, nitrates 5ppm, & pH 7.8

Joking….perhaps. I already have 5 tanks and I just got back into fishkeeping back in August with a betta named Rascal. I’m currently on here because lately Rascal hasn’t been acting himself at all and it’s worrying me, but that’s something I’ll have to start another thread on. Anyways, I have 2- 10gals, 2 - 5 gals & a 29gal tank.
