  1. I had an algae problem so I got 2 “golden Chinese algae eaters” exactly 1 month ago. It’s been a month and they’ve done an incredible job! I think they’re starting to eat my plants, though. (see pics) I put in pieces of algae wafers but they ignore them. Any advice?
  2. Oh my goodness! Thanks for the reassurance! I’ve been feeding him little pieces of algae wafers every day since I got him, since I knew he wouldn’t have enough vegetable nutrition from the fish’s good. In fact the pics I took are when he zeroed in on the algae wafer piece. You can see it as the bright green line in the 2nd pic. Some days I think I’ve trained him to go where I drop the piece of algae wafer, other days I wonder why he went the opposite direction. 😄 Thanks for the advice on actual real veggies. I’m gonna try out some steamed green beans for him and see how it goes.
  3. Hi everyone. So I know mystery snails need calcium for shell growth, and I’ve provided that. I’ve been doing the miracle shells since I got him about 3 months ago. Since that time he’s grown over twice as large. You can see in the pics the difference in the color from when I got him to how much he’s grown up to now. The thing is, his shell that has grown was darker than now. It was never as dark as when I got him, but it was definitely darker. Maybe a week ago I noticed all of his growth since I got him has become lighter. If it’s a nutrient deficiency, why doesn’t his original shell also get lighter? What other nutrients am I missing?
  4. Hi everyone! I just signed up and found this post and now I’m thinking my fish have epistylis too. The story is this: -15 Gallon planted aquarium - light is “moderate” - temp is stable 75F. -My fish are: — 3 endler guppies — 1 golden guppy — 2 julii corydoras — 2 golden zebra loaches — 3 black neon tetras — 1 mystery snail. -On 9/6 I saw white spots on my 3 black neon tetras. On 9/8 I started treatment with ich-x. I removed carbon filter. Only have sponge and bio filter. - it is now 9/17 and since 9/8 I have been doing a proper ich-x treatment: Every 24 hours I drain 1/3 water, add the ich-x. - That is 7 days of treatment with unclear improvement. During that time, it’s been white spots on and off only on the tetras. One day I think it’s cured, next day more spots, but only on the tetras - all other fish have looked fine the entire time. - all fish continue to be energetic and hungry - the white spots do not get worse. I mean they never cover entire fish. Just some spots on body, some spots on fins. It never overwhelms the tetras. But it’s not getting better. - The blue color in the water from the ich-x dissipates after a few hours. See pics. Notice in the last pic the white spot pokes out. Is that ich or epistylis?
