    I did a September tour of my tanks. The 75 is doing pretty good. The Molly population is on the rise. Time to get rid of some/all of them. I’m close to adding the new Cories to the 75 gallon. That will be fun. 

    The biggest news is that I am about to add some hardscape additions to the 75 gallon! I have a bunch of large river rock, and I think it’s going into the 75.

    As they discolor you can cut them off. As someone said above, they will not heal. It is best to snip them and the plant will reroute resources to new growth.

    The selection will be up to the people who have paid for a table. If you want to follow the club on Facebook there will be a thread later this week asking people to post what they plan on bringing. I could probably be more helpful if I knew what you were interested in. 
     

    Also, I don’t remember if we discussed it or not, but middle TN’s new club will be hosting their first meeting this weekend. It’s the Music City Aquarium Society. My co-host Tanner is one of the people who have been working on it. He was instrumental in the success of the ETAA. He had been traveling to KTown, but wanted to create a similar experience in the Nashville area.

    Hello fellow Tennesseans, and those who live close by! I know I’ve seen quite a few of us around the forum over the years, and I thought a thread providing info on hobby related events could help connect us. Feel free to post about your club meetings, swaps, or anything else connected to our hobby. 
     

    The East Tennessee Aquatic Association will be hosting our second swap of the year on Saturday October 8th from 9 am to 2 pm. The location is just north of Knoxville in Fountain City. This promises to be our largest event of the year. We have close to 20 tables reserved. Some of the tables will have livestock, some plants, equipment, possibly tanks, hardscape, art, and more!

    It is $2 at the door to get in. We are trying to put together a silent auction to support the club’s endeavors for next year. If you are interested in a table they are $20 for a whole and $10 for a half table. We recently reworked our floor plan and have a few spots left. Our Spring swap was our first event and we had over 90 people come through. It’s a great way to connect and to find stuff for your latest tank.

    I also wanted to invite you to join us in November for our last regular meeting of 2022. The presentation will be on DIY projects for the hobbyist. In December we plan on having a shorter meeting followed by a social event. The ETAA is growing, we hope you will join us for some fishy shenanigans.

    I’m just going to reinforce those who are encouraging you. I know it’s not easy, but don’t get frustrated yet. Your experience is typical  the brown algae is normal, and once the tank is cycled it will go away  

    I believe I saw you are fishless, and that is great  Takes a lot of worry out of the process  the best tip that I know is to find someone who will sell you (or give you) some cycled filter media, plant, or decoration. The beneficial bacteria in a filter is just a small part of the bacteria your tank will eventually have. The bacteria will be on the glass, the substrate, the plants, the decorations, etc. If you can get some plants that have been grown submersed from someone local that alone will give your cycle a huge boost.

    Some have mentioned the bottled bacteria. I’ve never used them, but I have heard many people had success with Fritz 7. If you can’t get filter media, substrate, decoration, or plants from someone you could try it.

    Any Chance Of An Event Announcement Forum?

    I would love to know more about hobby related events. I know quite a few people who are at the Keystone Clash right now, and Aquashella Chicago is coming up. There may be local events taking place and it could benefit the group by sharing that info. Could this forum provide a spot for posting events? 
     

    This question is motivated by my desire to know about all the events close enough for me to travel, and because my local club has an event in two weeks and it would be nice to let my fellow Tennesseans (and those looking for a day trip) know about it. 

    Shrimp hiding in filter

    I have used prefilter sponges for a very long time for that reason. But have you had shrimp come in through the outflow?

    I’ve found them in my canister too I assume shrimplets made it through the prefilter and lived their best life in the bottom of my canister. 😂

    Corydora Infection Every Few Months!?

    thanks @spookshow69 This did eventually go away. I have several happy Corydora in the tank now with no issues since the last loss in this thread. I’m not sure what it was, but it always looked bacterial and never had fluffy or raised areas. 
     

    On salt, I’ve spent a lot of time researching this. It is true that cories are more sensitive to salt than say livebearers, but salt appear to be a good treatment for many problems. It appears the trick is small dosage and short treatment. Check out Bob Steenfott’s video on it.
