  1. Hey i think i accidently put one of my cory frys in my shrimp tank. Is he going to be ok in that? The tank is well established and the shrimp herd is healthy and a lot of other organism have made that tank home. But will that fry survive in that or should i try to catch it and raise it in a cage?

Also should i be worried if i see the fry's swim a lot? They seem more active than earlier does that mean i dont feed them enough?

I know I can be annoying with my questions but its really because i want to make sure i'm not doing any mistakes.

  2. Just a quick question, i want to use my shrimp tank as a growing tank for fry's.I was planning on putting some guppy fry in a fry box so they don't go disturb the shrimp too much. But the thing is my shrimp tank is high PH now i know that's really good for guppies but the thing is if i raise them in that water will they just die if i put them back in a other less high PH tank later?

To be fair i think most of my tanks are at the 7 PH range its just the shrimp one as substrate that makes it high.

  3. Found this little guy a few days ago. he's about 1 cm long. And since he looks like a mini version of the adults now it means he was thriving here a few weeks even before i notice the first eggs. And with no help from me. Man I am so proud of my tank. I was able to raise a fry without even knowing it.

One of the things I cull for is tail shape, but I think that is specific to the specific strain of guppy. I have a high suspicion that these ginga rubra guppies were developed by crossing with endlers (although others will swear up and down that they are not,) and I have seen a few offspring with a cleft/split in the tail. Since that's not what I'm going for, I vanish them to the outdoor cull pond (dont worry, I'm in a warmer area and they are not going to freeze to death outside!) I have considered working with those split tails to develop a different trait in the strain, but Im bursting at the seams and have no more space for additional projects.projects.

Tough to get a good pic, but the top one shows the cleft tail. The second shows the normal tail, although its a bit of an optical illusion on the males since they have coloration on the top and bottom of their tail fins.

Interesting some of my mutt males also have this split tail.At first i thought it was just damaged but i think they just have endler genes in them.

    Also nice guppies btw

Hm, I haven't heard that, but this Aquarium Co-op podcast episode has an interview with a guppy breeder and she talks mostly about guppies needing thick caudal peduncles.

    https://traffic.libsyn.com/secure/aquariumcoop/Ep_48_Cheri_Tenaglia_02_08_19.mp3?dest-id=338491

I would also be interested to hear any other input on guppy breeding: desirable characteristics, common cull issues, etc.

Same, would be nice to have a list or just a visual or guidline on this. People say to cull but they never really explain WHAT you need to look out for. The spine is the only thing i know but apparently there are many things you can watch out for.

  6. Another one of my guppies died. Now i'm wondering if its something specific. When i picked her up she smelled really bad for a fresh looking corps. And by just rubbing her a yellowish organ popped out. So i decided to cut her open to see if anything was unusual inside and the smell seems to have gotten worse.

She was kind of bloated but i thought it was just normal big fish fat. I guess it could have been some kind of weird fish pus all along? You guys ever heard or experienced this?

Some people hard boil them and mush them thru a very fine mesh leaving a powdery result. I've never tried this but should work. Just have to be on top of excess food as it will foul quickly.

Alright, just one last question, do you know if i should feed them now? Because i've read some things that say they have a yolk they feed on for two days and dont need feeding for that time is that true?

  8. So do i need to feed these guys now or do I need to wait? I've put a couple leaves in the breeder box since i read that the frys will feed on the small organism that form on them. People say that brine shrimp is good but what if you dont have any? Know any other type of food that could work?

  9. I DID IT! I actually manage to hatch some of the eggs. And MY GOD they are tiny!I think its even smaller than a newborn guppy fry. Now im afraid to do a gravel vac in my aquarium because i'm wondering if others manage to survive too.

I’d have to see what you mean by grime exactly. Is that fungus? Infertile eggs grow white cotton-like fungus of measures are not taken to prevent it. Can you post more photos?

I meant more traditional aquarium debris, just waste i think.

Will try to get more pics when i can.

Hikar Vibra bites fluvial   bug bites and a variety of frozen food and freeze dried  hikar bio encapsulated freeze dried food is good  i feed my fish Vibra bites or fluvial bugs in morning and frozen or freeze dried in evening but I feed different frozen each time so they have a variety of nutrients

Alright i will try to vary his diet more and see if he improves. Will report back in a week or two.

If you’re interested in trying to hatch Cory eggs like this, here are two short videos you may find helpful. One important note, however... many times, the eggs laid are not fertile. If they stay white and build up fungus they are infertile. Good luck! Let us know how you make out.

Do you know how long it should take before i can see if the eggs were fertilise or not? Also i've founds some more and put them in a hang on breeder box. Do you think i should still put in a air stone? Since it already as a built in ""filter"" type thing and uses a air pump. Also how are the eegs on ""grime"" I woke up this morning and my box was full of it so i took a lot of it out but will that ""kill"" the eggs? Sorry for my annoyance its my first time doing this, Ive always bread livebearers but never egg layers.

It looks like it could be the start of hole in the head disease I would start treatment and enprove diet  most of the time is cause by  the fish not getting a proper diet

Any idea what i could feed it? Just more greens with the normal food?
