No it will not have an effect on them since they already aren't in large schools at the LFS. They will not get stressed or anything, especially if you plan on building their schools up later on. How big is your tank and are you planning on getting anymore once you get these? Any pictures of the tank?

so my tank is a 40 breeder My original plan was to get 30 black neon tetras but the local fish store doesn't have enough and they probably won't have another order them for a month and unfortunately I'm an impatient fish keeper That's the worst quality I have

The black neons are of the genus Hyphessobrycon, whereas the cardinals and the neons are from the genus Paracheirodon. This means the cardinals and the neons are more likely to school together (also they are of similar colors), but the black neons will likely not. However, you could pick up all of these fish and just build up their schools later on as the fish store gets some more in. Hope this helps.

I just worry that not getting enough of either or will stress the fish as they need large numbers to feel safe.

  4. Question I'm at the local fish store and I'm debating whether or not what to buy they have a few black neons which are what I wanted a few Cardinals and a few neons would they all school together that way I can get a full school instead of just two or three a piece due to limited supply

  5. Finally finished setting up my planted 40G

Update on the 40g finally got everything set up

    Full spectrum lighting ✔️
    300w heater✔️
Large sponge and aqua clear hob ✔️
Fluval stratum and black diamond sand ✔️
    Brazilian pennywort ✔️
    Java fern ✔️
    Christmas moss ✔️

Now just to get my stock in the next few weeks my idea is 30 black neon tetras and a pair of dwarf cichlids on the bottom as showpieces.

  6. This is my current project.

    40g breeder

2 java fern, Brazilian pennywort, christmas moss, large cholla wood piece holds moss and a fern.

fluval stratum with a light layer of sand to help hold it down for substrate

have a nice hygger full spectrum light coming from Amazon tomorrow (it's 5 days late already)

large sponge, and aqua clear 70 for filtration till my plants grow and can help keep up with just a sponge.

currently has rosey minnows that I use to help cycle newer tanks but future stock will be 20 black neon tetras and open to suggestions for a nice dwarf cichlid pair to keep with them.

    Amazing!

Are the floors strong enough for a lot of water weight? Just wondering if it might be an old house.

So my actual fish room is in the basment wich is finished concrete flooring so don't have to worry there in the future but the upstairs has my 40s and 20s. But house is only 13 years old so it still has young bones thankfully

  8. Hello everyone 😁 I'm marcus. I have been fish keeping on and off for the last 8 years constantly the last 3 years. I have kept a very diverse fish collection from community, to flower horns, africans, invertebrates, other large predator fish. I have recently downsized do to covid the past year. I currently keep 2 40g, 2 20g, 10g, and a 90 indoor pond.

I am far from someone who knows much about the hobby lol I have mainly learned from youtube and experience along the way. Believe it or not I actually just started my first planted tanks.

I hope to make some great friendships and learn from everyone here.
