Anerobic bacteria growth in sand doesn't have anything to do with the O2 conditions in the water. The problem is that the substrate grain size is so small that it's not allowing oxygenated water to flow through meaning that it's an ideal area for anerobic bacteria to grow.
I understand that this is pool filter sand grain size is not small at all and I have this any other tanks no issue. Wouldn't all the substrate have this problem and not the top layer wich is getting plenty of flow? Thanks

It’s a mat algae. If the sand turns black under the surface it due to anaerobic conditions. Just mins that there is no oxygen in there. Sand can pack down and can be hard the get icy down there.
It's just the top layer of sand. It's not compacted at all. Have tons of oxygen also. 2 huge air stones.

You said its where the light is directly above which makes me think its algae. Not a big deal and super easy fix. Just gravel vac it during your next waterchange, or get bottom dwellers for your tank to run past the substrate. Usually works for me!
I have some corys that are going in there tanks been setup for 6 months with only couple fish (black ghost knife and albino bicher) about to fully stock it with
20ish corys
150 tetra not all at once I will have them in QT and add them 20 at a time
Thanks

Does anyone have a idea why my sand is turning black. It seem to only be where the light is directly above. This is in my 280 with 4 fulval 3.0 they run 4 hrs in the morning and 4 hrs at night. Is this some kind of algae?
Any help appreciated.
Thanks

@Ryan W thank you for your help I order Fzone the C02 art copy or rebrand got it yesterday seems to be made really well and price was good for me and had good reviews also has where I can run to aquarium a so that is cool.Waiting on my diffuser to come in. I 2as lucky my grandpa had 2 old ⁵lbs tanks laying around and I swapped them out yesterday only cost me 22 buck for both. So I am about $175 bucks to get up and running. I will let you know how it is.

Mine always jump off when I am pulling it out of the water. I dont bag my shrimp filter in the water I take them out and into a bucket. They always seem to jump off.

You can use spot treatment of excel or hydrogen peroxide with a syringe. I have done that had some success. I would like to get some panda garra or Florida flag fish and try them I hear they eat it. I am sure some on with more insight on this will help out.

They do look like awsome products and have lifetime warranty just hard to drop $295 bucks on it. Thank you for you input. I am seriously considering them.

I was given a Milwaukee regulator with a tank. Had it about a year in the box finally ready to use it today and I see why it was given to me lol. Time for a new one. This is going on my 125 first time using co2 I have a 5lb tank. Can anyone recommend a co2 regulator that is good and wont break the bank. I was looking at these but I really dont want to spend this much.

Have you ever used methylene blue with the eggs. I find just a tiny amount goes a long way and keeps eggs from fungus. I will take a toothpick dip it in the methylene blue and the touch your egg storage.
That works well for me.
