I don't see any visual signs of stress or disease. Betta splendens are weird fish and some behaviors aren't correlated to stress rather a sense of quirkiness. I had a ton of rescue bettas in my time working at national pet store chain and no two exhibited the same behavior. I had one that would fall asleep on a lily leaf close to the surface so part of his body extended above the waters surface.

I feel that you have a strong enough background in aquarium keeping that I don't have to explain the woes of 1 gallon water swings. I am sure he will enjoy his new 10g when it's ready.

Yeah I already know the things of a 1g that’s why I addressed it in the original post, thanks for the advice!

Does he move around ok otherwise? My betta Kimono liked to hang out near the top vent (where the carbon filter was so I presume there was some flow into that chamber just not a lot) and he seemed kind of "stuck" with his fins spread. I feel like maybe he was doing it because it felt good or maybe because he didn't have to make an effort to stay afloat or move. Otherwise he moved around just fine and behaved normally. This looks like a crown tail? He looks pretty healthy to me.

Yeah he moves around just fine I believe like you said He likes the flow alsoI believe he is a crown tail I’m new to bettas so I don’t really know

  3. So I just rescued a betta off fb he came with and will be temporarily in a 1g until his 10 is ready but I just had a few questions regarding some of the fishes behavior he will purposely stick himself to the filter but he doesn’t flash so I don’t think it could be ick any ideas would be appreciated this is my first Betta and I want really expecting him even though he’s not the most complicated fish I own I know the least about him. also I put a pic and if you see anything physically wrong with him please let me know image.jpg.e17fab841024bdf441b7d737ff234981.jpg

  5. Ok so I just rescued a betta it came to me in a 1 gallon and I will have to stay in there for a bit  until I can get his tank to cycle but I think I want it to be a planted tank with a carpet and a lot of plants as for stocking I want the betta some shrimp but I don’t know what else the tank is a 10 but I wasn’t prepared for the fish to come to me it was unexpected but it was in a horrible situation before I tested the water when I First got it and I don’t even know how it was alive but what plants would you recommend I want it to look something like this

Hello, I’m considering getting an axolotl in the future, but I wanted to have an idea of what getting one would include. In particular I wanted advice from people who have had axolotls.
First, in terms of temperature, do you believe that a room temperature of 70-72F would be too high? That is a relatively normal room temperature for me. If not, how big of an impact do you think having a sponge filter, an open lid, and possibly insulation would have? These seem to be the easiest means to bring the temperature down a bit without resorting to a chiller or ice.

In of tankmates, I understand that there is some risk for having fish, snails, or shrimps with an axolotl, but I’m curious how real this is. I’m primarily interested in cherry shrimp or small cleaner fish.

    I appreciate any thoughts. Thanks!

I know I’m late but I say do it

room temp doesn’t matter it’s tank temp of below 70 but above 60 if you can’t get that with out other things Ice is the way to go but it a pain in the you know what in the long one you should look in to a diy one

Thank you CalmedByFish and Angelfishlover for your advice.

Sorry to hear that you are facing the same issue @CalmedByFish 😔. Totally envious of the custom acrylic. What size is it if you don’t mind me asking?

@Angefishlover are you saying that your Aqueon and Marineland tanks have the same bubbling? When you get a chance I would definitely be interested in seeing the pics of your tanks. It would be helpful for me to determine what to do.

If anyone else has experienced this issue before I would greatly appreciate your thoughts on the matter. Thank you.

I have never had the bubble issues but I am saying that mine all have extra sloppy seams

Ugh. So I swapped it out and instead of one really worrisome seam I now have 3 medium ones 😑. Has anyone experienced this before with brand new 55 gallon Aqueon tanks? I usually buy Aqueon 20s and 10s and never have had this problem. I’m kind of at a loss at what to do now honestly. Be that annoying customer and swap it out yet again, return it and not get a 55 gallon by Aqueon or live with it?

Yeah they can be pretty sloppy as they are mass produced and therefore have less quality control but I’ve never had and aqueon tank leak I will post some pics of mine I have a  55,29,10 all of witch are aqueons but some of my marine lands are also like that

  9. So I have and axolotl that needs to be below 70 but my house during the day can get up to mid-high 70s sometimes breaking into the 80s and obviously this isn’t ok for him and I need a way to cool his tank ASAP it’s a 40b

I am 100% sure there are others that don't have a LFS handy.  All we have is Petco, Petsmart, and what we can get off the internet.  I really wish we had a place that we could go to just fish gaze.

Oh, and our Petco is one of the bad ones.  The tanks are dirty, they often have dead fish floating in them, with other fish eating them, and the bettas in their cups act almost comatose, barely moving at all.

Here's hoping we can get a LFS soon!

My lfs is a 2hr drive I do have a good family owned pet store that takes great care of and only hires experts for there fish and reptiles but I have a petco I believe is worse than yours too basically what you said but x10 and add rude employees and they charge about double the prices on the petco website so I always price match witch makes them extra mad at me

  11. So I have a rope fish that I discovered today in the filter bucket of my hob he some how got swam up the outflow part against the current and then when I found him and tried to get him out he jumped out of the tank and I’m worried he might do this again and I might not find him until it’s to late

Yeah I only use the freshwater API kit to test for ammonia. I use test strips to test for hardness, and nitrates. Too much work to do it for other things that a test strip can easily handle.

Could be maybe you didn't quite administer the test correctly? That's what I'm hoping for. Beneficial bacteria should still colonize in the filter, what type of filter do you have?

It’s an aqueon hob filter meant for a 30g but the tank is a 10g and there is extra media in the filter when I get a chance I will re test

Dang what did you do to get the Nitrates that high? Never seen the red before, looks about 80 to me.

I usually use this:  and hold the color up to the screen 52nppcgm4o211.jpg

I honestly have no idea I’m trying to figure it out to the only thing I can come up with is a faulty test since this tank just had a water change on Friday the only other thing I can thing of is the tank is bare bottom for a baby axolotl so there is no bb in the substrate since  well there is none also I know it can’t be over feeding since there is no extra food in the tank since it is tong fed and I take out poop as soon as I see it

I need suggestions for the best way to locate a new home for an 8"  Red-eared slider turtle.  My son HAD to have a turtle when he was young.  Now he's 18 and I have somehow 'acquired' his turtle.  Unfortunately, the turtle is close to outgrowing her current tank and, though I could afford a larger tank, I just don't have the room.

All of the traditional sites I would normally try (Craigslist, Buy Nothing, Offer up) have prohibitions against live animals.  I don't even know if it's allowed here.

I'm not looking to sell the turtle, I just want to find a good home for her.  Someone who likes turtles and has a large tank or pond.

Any suggestions on how/where to seek a potential new home for her?

Either you lfs or Craigslist actually has a pets only page

  15. So my convict has been a pain lately first he killed all my plants and now he won’t eat his normal food I’ve tried all the foods I’ve ever had him on(bloodworms/brine shrimp)and nothing so I wanted to try something new
