  1. Turns out my 4 mollies are not males after all.  I knew my two black mollies were male due to their pointed gonopodia's.  My two Dalmation mollies don't have pointed gonopodia's but appear to have more rounded anal fins. One is definitely bigger and rounder, so I had suspected she was a she, but has been in the tank for almost 4 months and no babies.

I just noticed babies in the tank a tonight.  They are very cute.

I changed two things recently.  First was giving my fish (4 mollies and 20 neon tetras) live baby brine shrimp once or twice a week.  The second was putting some floating plants in the tank.

The babies are hiding in the floating plants.   I have not gotten a count yet, but there are more than seven.

I crushed some flake food and they ate it, so that's good.  I fired up the BBS maker so I can feed them tomorrow night.

Since I had no plans to have babies, I will just let nature take it's course.  If they make it and grow up, I will have to find homes for the little ones.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    What an amazing day.

  2. I ordered 6 Amano Shrimp and they arrived yesterday via UPS.  I drip acclimated them and then put them in my 29g tank.  The tank has 20 neons and 4 male molly fish.  The shrimp were somewhat active last night, but this morning they are MIA.  I can't find any of them.  Are they hiding until they get acclimated to the aquarium or do Amano just stay hidden?  These are my first shrimp and am concerned I just murdered a small family of Amano's.

  3. I keep mine in my unheated garage and just use a heater with a thermostat.  I dialed it in to about 82 degrees and it sits in the whole on the top .  When I fill the water I let the heater sit in the water for about half an hour before I turn everything on.  So far I get shrimp in 24 hours every time.  I don’t think the brand of heater matters, just that you can adjust the temp.

  4. I got back into aquariums almost a year ago.  I bought a 10g tank and started with some neon tetras.  That tank became a 29g that now houses 20 neons, 4 male mollies and two Nerite snails and lots of plants that has been running about 6 mos.  The 10g is now my quarantine tank.  I also have a 5g that has only been running a few weeks and will be a shrimp tank once it’s seasoned.

I am amazed at the info on the internet yet, it appears water quality controls most of what happens in tanks.  I am really starting to appreciate keeping things simple and stable.
