Hole in the head can be caused by a number of things such as poor water quality as other have mentioned nutritional deficiency Hexamita parasite the most effective treatment is metronidazole in food feeding a small amount twice a day for 3 weeks you can use seachems metroplex or fritz metrocleanse and keep good water parameters parameters I would look at what your feeding just in case something missing from it diet

Thank you, I am having a hard time finding MetroPlex, is there something else that would work in its place?

Maybe if you treat with maracyn that could help. But water quality is so imphasied for HITH disease, it can be a game changer, but if it starts getting worse medication might be needed @JosiahBass, that is my 2 cents lol

Alright, thanks. I appreciate your (2 cents). I will look into the (maracyn).

HITH can be caused by a lot of stuff.  But there's about a 90% chance that it's water quality related (and probably things you can't test for).  Get yourself set up to give your fish pristine water (large, frequent changes).  I'm talking 90% every day or every other day.  Keep that up for a month or so and see how it looks.

    Do you have any pictures?

Alright I will try that here is a picimage.jpeg.e7f2043f7d0e61aca2a6cffc021d7021.jpeg

It's not bad but I am still not going to ignore it. Plus I can tell he has lost energy and some of his appetite.

I am sorry, I was just mentioning colu so he might be able to help you…. I was not hating, idk what that means, but I am not trying to start something…..😕 my bad. @JosiahBass….

pictures would be great. I read that crystal clear water helps a lot, more frequent water changes and such, agree with @jwcarlson

My bad I misunderstood, I don't want to start anything either.

  5. Hello, my pet Bass has had a mild case of what I believe to be hole in the head disease. I tried (Fritz paracleanse) and it turn the water extremely cloudy. I change 80% of the water in his tank and it got much better. Then I tried the treatment again and the same thing  happened so I changed 80% of the water again and the tank cleared up. My pet Oscar also got hole in the head 4 days ago (I use the same siphon on those 2 tanks) I followed the treatment plan and he has fully recovered since he got sick. The only difference is the oscars tank has a sponge filter will my bass tank uses hang on the back filters (with carbon)(which I removed during treatment as the directions said). I am now trying a salt treatment on my bass tank. Any advice to help him to recover or other medications would be helpful.

    Thank you,

How big is the tank?  If it is only 1/8” in just one direction I wouldn’t worry about it.  I called aqueon to ask about this when I setup my tanks and that’s what I was told.

It's a 75, I called Aqueon, I got a little ticked off when they said they couldn't help me at all or tell me anything for insurance reasons. Apparently they can't help you if you don't use on of there stands.😒

Is this real wood furniture or particle board?

Yes, it is real maple. I don't think I could ever trust a particleboard stand for a 75 gallon.

I’d love to see how you shim it and what it looks like once you have it all set.  Could help others in the future as well.

I will, Its probably going to be about two weeks before I put the tank on the stand(therefore putting the shims in).

Now that is a lot of fun. You could try shims to level it out, but with a bow in the middle that is going to be tricky.

If it was a 40 breeder I would say don’t worry about it as it’s only 1/8

send us a picture so we can see what you're working with. It may just require shims

Ok, I'am just going do the shims. From the research I've been doing I believe it to be my best option.

Thank you both for your help,

  9. Hello, I bought a cabinet to use as a 75 gallon tank stand, After I bought it I come to find it has a 1/8 of an inch sag in the middle. I know the cabinet needs to be completely flat how do I accomplish it.

Yes, you can with enough light but they need a LOT of light to flower.  I was buying lilies for an outdoor tub years ago and there was a tiny lily with 2 tiny leaves growing in a discard container that happened to have a bit of rainwater in it.  I asked if I could have it and it went home with me.  I initially put it in a 70 G tank that was moderately lit by today’s standards (bright by the standards back then).  It produced a few leaves - sent them right to the surface.  Once weather was better I put it outside in another tub and I still have it decades later when the other water lilies I got did not prosper and I don’t even remember why, now.  It clearly is a survivor!  But it’s much better off in the outdoor tub.  It does get a small pond heater every winter so the ceramic tub doesn’t freeze solid and crack.

Thank you, I have hade Lillys in an outdoor fish tube before, for this project I am building an all natural native aquarium aquascape indoors so I want the Lilly will be in a tank. Is there any special lighting needed? Or will a powerful LED be fine.

  11. Alright, thank you for your help.

If you mean native lillies in an aquarium I suppose it'll grow with the proper light/fertilization, but I don't have any first hand experience.

  12. By normal Lillys I mean like what you would put it a pond. And I am fine if they block light, I a building a native aquarium tank. I want it to look as natural and as realistic as possible. I am wondering when it comes to lighting and temperature if it could stay alive in an aquarium.

Im not exactly sure what you mean by "normal" size, but I recently clipped a 8" pad from my dwarf aquarium lilly (pictured in my 36g Journal). The main problem of huge lillys being that if you get 2 or 3 huge lillys they block a good deal of light.

  13. If you can I would put you platy in its own tank with lots of decor for the fry to hide in and as soon as she give birth put her back in her original tank so she docent eat them. If that's not a option get a breeder box with a lower section for the fry to hide in and remove the mother as soon as possible to keep her from eating them.

If you have any other questions please ask.

My opinion on guppies, mollies and platies is that if there’s a male and female together, the female would be pregnant 99% of the time.

    Very true.

I'm not convinced that common plecos should even be in the hobby.  IMO the best surprise would be that it's a female bristlenose, rubberlip, or otherwise much, much smaller pleco.

Doesn't look like a common to me.  Spotted rubber lip, maybe?

I don't think it's a rubber lip from being able to see it up close and in person. And in some cases I agree for most people common pleco's are not a good choice. I got him originally to grow out to live with my predatory fish (I don't think that's going to happen).

After looking it up I would actually would say he probably looks more like a spotted rubber nose than a common.
